Growing Plants in Minecraft






Farmland

Many kinds of plants require Farmland to grow on. With hoes you can create farmland by digging dirt blocks or grass. Farmland is similar to dirt , but the blocks aren't as tall.






Farmland that remains unplanted for too long, or that is taken advantage of (by mobs or players) will revert to dirt.





Irrigation

Farmland within 4 blocks of water will become"irrigated" (or "hydrated". Most crops do better on irrigated farmland that is dry.





Lighting

Most crops need light to grow. They can grow outdoors, but they can also grow indoors if there enough lighting.



You must have artificial lighting for growing crops indoors as well as underground.








Bone Meal

Bone Meal can be fertilised to increase the growth of various crops. Bone Meal is composed of skeleton bones and when you right click to apply it to your plant, there is a chance of it growing.








Wheat

Wheat is the most common crop that you will grow.








Seeds

First, you will need

You can obtain these by breaking up blocks of long grass. You'll also get more seeds when you harvest your wheat, so you only require a handful to begin with.





The first time you plant your crop

Planting

Beetroot can be eaten raw or transformed into Beetroot Soup. You can also make Rose Red dye from it.





Cocoa Beans




Cocoa beans can be found in dungeons, or growing on trees in the wild. You can farm by planting the beans on the top of a Jungle Wood log (either utilize live trees or pieces of wood from the tree and place it where you want. Just like other plants, they will go through various stages of growth and, when they are ready to harvest, you can pick them.








Nether Wart




Nether Wart is only available in Nether Fortresses. However, once you have some the plant, it can be grown anywhere. It can be grown in Soul Sand and harvested when it is fully developed.



It doesn't require any light, but it can't be stimulated by bone meal. It can only be grown it in soulsand, not regular dirt.
