Minecraft will Require a microsoft Account to Play in 2022

Minecraft players have been able to play without a Microsoft account for the last six years that Microsoft has owned the game but that will change in 2021, the official Minecraft blog announced yesterday. If you own the original game, and haven't switched to an Microsoft account and have not yet logged in, you will no longer be allowed to play.

The game has been available in two separately developed versions since its release on consoles. The first version of Minecraft: Java Edition had accounts from Mojang. Minecraft: Bedrock Edition was the name used for the console and Windows Store version of the game. The accounts will remain the same following this change, but crossplay is still not feasible. You cannot play with friends using another version of Minecraft.

Mojang says players migrating from Mojang accounts will not lose any data and that the new accounts will feature two-factor authentication (2FA) and other safety features previously offered in the Bedrock Edition of the game, like parental controls and the ability to block chats and invitations - a concern for younger players playing multiplayer servers.

In the coming months players will be notified in batches with instructions on how to move. They will also receive a notification on your profile page when you are able to create a new account. Alongside the blog post, Mojang created a video to explain the switch and to address complaints from players:

Anyone concerned should be aware that the video is reassuring about the compatibility between user-generated content (and multiplayer), but it also makes a lot of assumptions about how you'll feel. The video doesn't discuss anything that could cause concern for players: usernames for Java Edition may change.

Mojang clarified in its support documents that the change does not change your username. However in the event that someone is using your name as a Gamertag, you will need to accept the new suffix at the end (e.g. Minecraftfan #1734 or a new one. Names that don't comply with Microsoft's safety standards will have to change. Due to the fact that there are fewer names available and the addition of a suffix might be more prevalent, particularly considering the time it has taken for console players to get these suffixes.

Mojang claims that it was easier to use Microsoft accounts than to create these new features from scratch. But if they are so important and necessary, why did it take this long to get them? Two-factor authentication has been requested by players for as long as the game offered a place to sell and purchase content. This is three years, if you include. It's a great reason to change the system. Poesia-infantil.com However, it wasn't until this point. I'm left to wonder if this is an issue Microsoft forced, thereby simplifying the management of their biggest game before the launch of next-generation consoles.

While not as explosive as Facebook's decision to require Facebook accounts for the use of Oculus headsets, Minecraft is still one of the most popular games on the planet and gamers will now have to take action if they still want to play.

Correction An earlier version of the article stated that usernames must be changed if the same username is used previously as a Gamertag. Because of an update to Microsoft's account system last year identical names are now provided with suffixes to distinguish them from each other , rather than forcing users to switch to an entirely new name. We are very sorry for this mistake.
