If you keep an watch on the App Store (or have a quick RSS feed to follow it) you may have seen an app dubbed Minecrafted up on a Monday morning. FREHTML5.CO It's a Minecraft client for iOS and is a new version of the extremely popular indie game that can be played on an iPhone and can connect to real Minecraft servers. Do not rush to download it. The app has been removed from the App Store, and you'll receive an error message if you try to find it on the US store.
What's the issue? TUAW approached Trevor Wilkin, the app's creator. He explained that his original plan was to have the client be created, submitted to Apple and then ratified by Minecraft before it was released. Apple released it immediately, but Wilkin claims he was "pretty very scared and removed the app as fast as I could." He's not sure if his application is authentic -- it's all original code, according to the description. It's possible that it was reverse-engineered because it's compatible with current servers or versions of the game.
To us, Wilkin sounds innocent enough. Wilkin says he doesn't want to harm the brand, but he just wanted to offer an effective tool. I'm still hoping to figure out an official solution that doesn't stray on anyone's toes." We'd like to think that too. having Minecraft running on a regular basis on iOS is a welcome benefit for iPhone users and fans of the incredibly popular game.
