Alcoholics Anonymous - Twelve Steps - What Does Step Two Mean?
Risk of injury or death. This is probably the most rehashed point made against drunk driving, and with good reason. Drunk driving is not worth risking your life, your friends' lives, or someone else's.

The other day I was dropping my daughter off at school and noticed another student with no shoes on. I overheard the parent explaining to the Principal why her child was barefooted. They had been getting ready for school and the child was intentionally being slow. She was fighting the mother and being generally difficult. When the time arrived to leave for school the child was not ready...she did not have her shoes on. Instead of going to get the shoes herself the mother decided to teach the child a lesson. She put the little girl in the car and took her to school. She walked around all day with no shoes on. I don't know, but I'll be she was ready for school on time the next morning.

AA does offer a program of conformity, but AA is not about conformity. AA is not about submission to others in the group. I will not dispute that AA is about submitting to the fact that you have a problem and want help. Seeking help from people who have experienced similar circumstances, but remaining free to choose and make your own decisions indicates the individual is exercising free will. Cults do not allow the existence of free will because some manner of mind-control is practiced to create the cult I sought help from an organized group when I studied for the Texas Bar Exam. Is the legal profession a cult? I know some who would say yes, but the truth is we seek comfort and strength in groups of people who have similar experiences, problems, or goals.


Dr. Bob and Bill W. discovered the mutuality of their predicament when they met for the first time in the home of Anne S. in May of 1935. Carrying the message of alcoholics anonymous was to be the work of Dr. Bob, Bill W. and an army of others for years to come. Some in the medical profession are unconvinced to a spiritual approach to treatment, while some more spiritual rehabilitation programs abandon one or two of the steps, as some reject the idea that the alcoholic can never be cured of alcoholism.

Middle Stage: The middle stage is defined as needing to drink more and more to get the same "buzz". Your alcoholic spouse will not admit a drinking problem to you, but he/she has thought about it a lot. His/her brain is alcohol dependent. In other words, alcohol withdrawal symptoms such as insomnia and shakiness occurs if he/she tries to quit drinking. Black outs and hangovers are common. S.L fits into this category.

Laws for alcohol-impaired driving back then are simple, a person is not allowed to drive a motor vehicle if he's intoxicated. This law, however, is not clear because it's not further defined.
