When RF energy travels through a compound that is polar nuclei of the atomic structure and electrons within the nuclei get displace from their equilibrium position. As a result, the electrons in the nuclei transform into dipoles that are induced. The dipole realignment happens thousands of times per second. During farady clothing there is friction between the moving molecules and heat is generated across the entire surface of the material.

While RF radiation does not directly harm DNA, it can cause heat to accumulate within body tissues that could cause burns or tissue damage. Contrary to ionizing radiation RF radiation is not believed to cause cancer. However, studies have revealed higher rates of tumors in lab animals exposed to RF radiation.

There are numerous federal agencies that are involved in regulating and monitoring the effects of RF radiation on the human body. They include The Environmental Protection Agency, the Food and Drug Administration, and the OSHA. They monitor RF exposure to ensure it's safe for employees. They also urge employees to limit their exposure if they are working in high-frequency RF environments.
