How to keep boredom at bay during long hours as a security guard in an underground facility

Times are difficult. The gig economy makes it even more difficult for me to maneuver in this new environment. I used to be able to perform well prior to the pandemic. But, my primary job as a dental assistant was not so difficult. This is why I was offered a nighttime security officer job at the local machine plant. Most of the work is automated. There are employees in the daytime, but only me and 2 engineers work on the night crew. I've got an emergency number that I can call should there be any issues or if machinery suddenly stops working. I then contact engineers or outside line for additional engineers. I do nothing. You see, they're making no money at all. Thus, night guard is really just an unimportant switchboard operator.

I have been trying out various videos on fixing cars recently. While I don’t know how to apply these techniques to my car immediately I do like watching other people fixing their cars. DIY videos can be just as informative and straightforward. This was when I realized that there was a problem. Internet would cease to work on my phone at some point. I couldn't access any video or other useful activity because, as we all know, the internet is necessary to everything. To my absolute joy, I was able to download new episodes and movies onto my laptop. My laptop is more comfortable than my desktop, and has superior speakers. I joined HULU and Netflix. I can now download their app and watch movies rather than streaming them. The duration of the show as well as the quality settings will determine the speed at which the video will download onto my device. Then it'll be available at all times even without internet access. It only takes 15 minutes to watch television however it also allows you to catch up on any episodes that you didn't catch last night.

There are a lot of interesting or educational materials that I can download at home and take to work. It makes my life much easier. YouTube's self-improvement webinars are an excellent source. However, it can be difficult to watch a 1hr video and follow what they are saying. If you're familiar with what I mean... In these instances, I time try to get ready at home, download the YouTube video as an mp4 file on my laptop, and then watch it at any time during work, no limitations on wifi, and no wifi needed at all The file is stored on my laptop as a DVR and nothing is ruined, spotty wifi doesn't matter as it's not a requirement in my situation.

Sometimes , I take my little son with me to work, it's the days that my wife works her night shift too, making it impossible for us to remain home with the kid. And so I bring him along with me, place him in front of the computer screens where I monitor my stuff, and in a matter of minutes he's asleep.. I then hand him my laptop, which has a few music videos I've downloaded. He is able to watch the crazed young artists on screen. I am content to do my work with the phone, but he wakes up. This is the way we work together better by doing our thing. It's possible he loves coming to dinner with me. Maybe because he likes to stay up all late at night.
