Executives often hope to see returning vacationers much more frequently than employees. McKinsey surveyed nearly half of the executives and discovered that 49% of them expect at least some employees to return to work during the period of July to December. This is in contrast to 55 percent of office workers, who also hope to have at least a small proportion of their workforce returning to the office regularly. People who work remotely may feel disconnected from their office and lack direction when there is a lack of culture.

On a larger scale, most workers (about half) are not from the United States, but about a quarter of executive respondents resided outside of the US. This was shocking to many executives. When office space requirements are identified early, office managers can create workstations that accommodate these unique requirements. For instance when a worker has difficulty getting up from a sitting in a chair, there might be a keyboard lift that can be installed on the workstation to allow easy access to a chair.

Every office worker can be more productive if they have the right lighting as well as sound, humidity and indoor environmental quality standards. People who work in areas that do not receive sunlight or are not exposed to much natural light need to have a good indoor environment. Poor indoor environmental quality can affect alertness, decrease productivity and lead to illness.
