When you're looking for the best way to ski mountains, bike skiing may be the perfect sport for you. It provides an all-around workout that is better for your legs and body than the traditional ski-lift routine. Because you're sitting and standing on your bike, you'll place less strain on your knees, back, and legs. Plus, you won't feel the same level of fatigue that you would if you were just skiing.
Jim Cameron's passion for bike skiing
For over 30 years, Jim Cameron has been in the snowsports industry, working with retailers, consumers, and manufacturers. He's held positions in product management, marketing, and sales for companies like Tyrolia Bindings, Toko Wax, and Icebreaker. A former mountain biker, Jim Cameron was introduced to skibiking during high school. Currently, he owns and operates Ski Bike USA and is the Import/Export Manager for Wintersteiger North America.
Types of ski-bikes
When you go to the snow , the first thing you'll probably see are ski-bikes. These sport-specific bikes are often called skibobs in Europe. Because of their low center of gravity, ski-bike riders can sit down. Unlike normal bikes, ski-bikes feature foot-skis that fit into a ski boot. They can handle all types of terrain and can be ridden either sitting or standing.
Historically, ski bikes have a lot of overlap with mountain biking. As a result, many of these bikes use downhill mountain bike techniques. Some are ridden sitting down, while others have foot pegs and are designed for standing. They're still a relatively new sport, but they've gained in popularity. Here are some facts about the different types of ski-bikes:
Lassen Peak's openness to motor vehicles
Bicycle riders who enjoy the scenery, the exercise, and the challenge of biking on Lassen Peak may want to consider avoiding the road altogether. Lassen Peak is closed to motor vehicles in winter, but in spring, parts of the road are open to bikers and walkers. If the road is closed, bikers can hike to the trailhead and return to their vehicles. When the snow thaws, Lassen Park Road will open for bikes.
If you prefer a bike ride to a hike, the east face is a great option. The slopes on this side are sparsely-covered with trees and contoured around the mountain. This aspect makes it easier to stay on the snow for longer. Because the east face faces south, the snow will melt earlier, so bikers should try to stay on the mountain as long as possible to avoid a slippery descent.
Tngnt Carve
A Tngnt Carve for bike skiing is an all-mountain ski bike that is designed for people of all skill levels. The bike's features include full suspension, tuned ski retention system, and easy riding. This ski bike allows adaptive riders to get on the slopes quickly without worrying about the effects of gravity or impact. The Tngnt Carve is perfect for bike skiing or mountain biking.
There are several benefits of this ski bike. Professional riders recommend it. It features progressive suspension, slimmer mid-frame, stronger retention system, and compatibility with Boost forks. The TNGNT Carve is a top-of-the-line ski bike. Regardless of where you want to go, you can count on Tngnt's expertise and experience to get you to your destination.
Willamette Pass
If you are looking for a great ski resort with plenty of terrain, Willamette Pass is the place to go. Willamette Pass is located above the town of Oakridge/Westfir and offers 500 acres of skiable terrain. You can ski on four lifts, including a magic carpet, and then explore the numerous trails in between. You'll love the family-friendly atmosphere, and you can find plenty of advanced off-piste terrain here, too. The RTS lift and Dragon's Back ridge offer a great mix of skiing for all levels.
The Willamette Pass is situated on the crest of the central Oregon Cascades, flanked by old-growth trees. The pass is topped by 9,000-foot Mt. Bachelor and is part of the "Ring of Fire"--the Northwest's contribution to the famous Ring of Fire. The area is dotted with mountains that are steep and imposing, including Diamond Peak, Broken Top, and the Three Sisters.
