The Professional Gambler
I want to start out by telling you who this piece is about, or rather, who it is not about. The Professional Gambler isn't the flashy player that you see making lots of noise and calling attention to himself. The professional gambler won't place bets that are high-roller. No, the real pro is a calm, reserved, committed player. Professional gamblers know that gambling is an enterprise. It is a profitable business.


Professional gamblers do not "go out to enjoy a day (or night) of gambling." The professional would not assume that they'd be playing all the night. A professional usually makes a decision within 30 minutes if they want to keep playing or stop. When a professional gambler is going to gamble, it's with the specific intent to be successful, not to entertain himself and others. It's work. It's a job. It is impossible to predict the time it takes for one to win enough or to lose enough. However, an experienced player will be able to identify these limitations and possess the ability and discipline to act according to the rules.

You may have on occasion, played next to the professional. You probably will not be able to recall it. One thing that can be noticed by an experienced player is the fact that he wins and then stops. The player isn't content to play and keep playing because they're "out for an evening" of gambling. If professional gamblers wish to be entertained they attend the latest show or film. Gambling isn't just an "activity", as most tourists see it. You travel to Vegas or Atlantic City and you gamble all night. This is the way that recreational gamblers play. They find it very easy to rationalize...something like this; "Well I played all night and it only cost me $200. That is not so bad for a night of entertainment with complimentary drinks." This is known as the tourist mentality. You might hear of people who won thousands in Vegas. It's possible. It is possible. However, you will likely hear the tale that says:
"I was up to 3 or 4 hundred, but I was able to recover it." You will never have a professional make such a statement. If someone gambles for a profit, they will realize that 3-4 hundred dollars is a good gain and soon gone.

Professional gamblers are known as guerrilla fighters. They're not here to race. The professional is in the game to make a profit. Losing or winning doesn't usually take much time, and certainly not throughout the day or night. There is a chance that they will get a winning streak and believe me, the pros will notice it and follow through to the finish. The majority of the time however, the professional's betting will only last enough to either make profits or lose the maximum. If a professional is able to win big, there is no chance that the casino will have to pay that amount ever again. Casinos cannot afford to lose the player.

The professional is way too knowledgeable to believe that there is any system that can always beat casinos, no what game they are playing. Instead the professional gambler will utilize proven strategies and betting methods to increase their odds of winning. There are a few decisions to be made during play.
