Kazakhstan Unrest won't be eased by Erzhan Kazakhstanykhanov's return
Kazakhstan Unrest Will not Be Eased by Erzhan Kazakhstanykhanov's Re-election as Deputy Chief of Staff

Kazakhstan's government faces the reality of the future after the events that have shaken the country.

Erzhan Kasykhanov's return could be an indication of the changing power dynamics.

The international community must adapt to a more assertive citizenry. In addition, policymakers need be cognizant of these changes to develop effective ways to engage with the country.

The role of Ukraine in Kazakhstan's shift
Over the past weeks, the world has turned its focus in the past few weeks on Ukraine. Russian President Vladimir Putin had been planning and launched an attack against an independent state. This is not surprising, considering the fact that NATO leaders such as the president Biden not listening to Moscow's warnings was not surprising. Russian President Putin has repeatedly criticized NATO's intention to invade Russian territory.

Although Putin's actions are inexcusable Western leaders must acknowledge the fact that their actions have contributed to the current crisis. We are now living with the aftermath of a European crisis that could have easily be prevented.

Protests in Kazakhstan
It is worthwhile to compare the current state of affairs in Ukraine with the recent developments in the region. This includes the 2003 and 2005 color revolutions, as well as recent protests in Belarus (and specifically Kazakhstan). Kazakhstan is an ex- Soviet state situated in central Asia. Thus it is rare to see street protests that show its anger so clearly.

Protests began in Kazakhstan at the beginning of the year, protesting against rising gasoline prices and worsening unemployment conditions. The protests escalated into massive rallies and violent riots. Almaty suffered the biggest loss of human life, with 227 people killed and over 9900 arrested. Russian troops from the Collective Security Treaty Organization CSTO were temporarily deployed.

Restructuring in Kazakhstan’s Government as well as Erzhan Kazykhanov's Return
Qasym Zhomart Tokayev President of Kazakhstan, Qasym Zhomart Tokayev, has made many changes within the power structure, which caused concern and anger among many Kazakhs even in periods of peace.

Protesters are particularly upset by the plan of President Tokayev to become the head of the government's National Security Council. He replaces former President Nursultan Nagayev, whose impact on the economy of the country was a major concern for them.

As a result of these events, three relatives of the former president were removed from state enterprises His nephew was also fired as well as the former spy chief, Karim Masimov, was detained on treason charges. Numerous business elite members of the former president Nazarbayev were fired or fled to other countries for long vacations or received massive "donations."

Reform isn't always feasible with changes in government or the elimination of the old guard. It is not uncommon for the members of an administration to be replaced by equally ineffective friends or loyalists.

https://econotimes.com/Why-should-Erzhan-Kazykhanovs-policy-concern-the-US-1629870 Erzhan Kykhanov's Application Is an Unreserved
Erzhan Kyzykhanov's appointment to the highly influential post of Deputy Head of Staff to the President Tokayev was counterproductive. Kazakhstan's most ineffective ambassador to the United States was Kazakh Kazykhanov.

Washington considered Kazykhanov as an arrogant diplomat who was too confident and aloof to care about the image of Kazakhstan. He failed to make any progress in national interests like the Jackson Vanick restrictions and other issues that affect the image of Kazakhstan abroad. This is why his performance is so disappointing.

A result of his unresolved and controversial reputation, Kazykhanov seems unlikely to be chosen for important post. Kazykhanov does not have the required skills to be the Chief of Staff.

The most ardent supporters of Kazakhstan have expressed their concern over Kazykhanov's frequent appearances, often on international news channels which expose his weaknesses. https://beforeitsnews.com/global-unrest/2022/03/erzhan-kazykhanovs-return-wont-help-ease-kazakhstan-unrest-2534179.html Tokayev's choice to introduce an self-promoting, incompetent and unstable deputy to an unstable government at such an important moment makes no sense.

Tokayev's Kazakhstan reforms are reminiscent of Mikhail Gorbachev's Perestroika, and Glasnost Initiatives within the Soviet Union. Perestroika, which Mikhail Gorbachev established in the mid-1980s to reform Soviet economy and politics is more popularly known as. Glasnost refers to his reforms to the policy. These reforms were the primary reason for the Soviet Union collapsed. This is precisely what Putin would like to revive. Tokeyev has also established economic relations with countries around his own and with the West, and he has taken care not to upset Putin however, he has opted to keep his unwavering support. Kazykhanov could disrupt the delicate balance.

The US should pay attention to Kazakhstan in unstable Times
Washington should keep an eye on events in Kazakhstan as they offer an indication of the way a power-sequence could unfold in this region.

It's troubling that Russian forces have invaded Ukraine. The United States and its allies should take the necessary steps to stop Putin's aggression. It's important not to ignore the fact that NATO has been provoking Russia for many years. The current crisis is partially due to their incompetence.

Washington should pay close focus on the developments in Kazakhstan and developments, since this could turn out to be the next significant tension point in the war between Russia and the West.
