CU Cancer Center

The National Cancer Institute has renewed the grant awarded to the University of Colorado Cancer Center and its scientists are making progress in several areas of cancer research. Among the new hires are Eduardo Davila, PhD, who is co-leader of the Tumor Host Interaction program. In addition the center has promoted Eduardo Davila to associate director of the Cancer Research Training and Education Coordination program. Reading more Both of these programs aim to improve cancer treatment for patients as well as to grow the careers of new investigators and young scientists.

The NCI provides funding for cancer research in almost every state in the United States, as well as in 20 other countries around the globe. The NCI is committed to enhancing cancer care and training by supporting clinical trials. It also sets national priorities for cancer research. The NCI has 69 cancer centers in the United States. Its CCR division, which has more than 230 research groups, is the largest intramural program.

Center for Strategic Scientific Initiatives (CSSI)

The NCI's Center for Strategic Scientific Initiatives (CSSi) is an office of research in the National Cancer Institute. It is a "concept shop" for the institute which invests in research that tackles new issues, while also developing tools and public resources. Reading more CSSI was created to help foster new science and improve cancer research. The Center for Strategic Scientific Initiatives (CSSI) manages a variety of major programs including the National Cancer Institute-sponsored Provocative Questions initiative and two trans-NCI grant programs and a number of pilot programs focused on standardization and technology development.

CSSI is an innovator in the field of cancer research. The organization develops and implements new technologies infrastructures, standards, and protocols. CSSI also promotes cross-disciplinary collaboration by providing funding opportunities, and developing reagents and database resources. CSSI manages collaboration with collaborators to aid NCI-funded research and to create new technologies and innovations. CSSI helps translate these breakthroughs into clinical trials and provide more precise diagnosis and treatment.

Division of Cancer Epidemiology and Genetics (DCEG)

The Division of Cancer Epidemiology and Genetic Studies (DCEG) is responsible for conducting and facilitating innovative transdisciplinary epidemiological and genetic research. The research of the division has helped us understand cancer prevention, risk, treatment, and management. A variety of contract services are available to the division that support its researchers. They include assistance in finding specimens and labs. The MEAS program also provides assistance for clinical studies and cell and genetic processes.

The DCEG is made up of internationally renowned scientists who examine cancer across a range of populations. Their research is conducted on a variety of types of cancers, using clinical, epidemiologic and genetic data. The division also coordinates the DCEG Strategy Planning process and facilitates trans-divisional research. To ensure the effectiveness of research efforts, DCEG uses F.A.I.R.R. principles.
