FODAC Golf Tournament Fundraiser Collects $44,000
for Home Medical Equipment Program

2020 Event Surpasses Previous Year’s Take by 22%

Tucker GA (October 14, 2020) — The Friends of Disabled Adults and Children (FODAC) Annual Golf Tournament Fundraiser raised an impressive $44,000 despite being held during the continuing COVID-19 pandemic. Held on Monday, October 5 at the Stone Mountain Golf Club, the event took in 22% over the amount raised in 2019. Funds raised from the event will help support FODAC’s mission to supply home medical equipment (HME) to people with disabilities and their caregivers at little to no cost to the recipients.

Various Atlanta companies and individuals sponsored 91 players broken into foursomes for the tournament, and prizes were awarded to both winning foursomes and individual players.

• First place foursome – ER Snell
• Second place foursome – Atlantic Capital Bank
• Third place foursome – Brand and Britt
• Longest drive (men) – Chad Ebert (Atlantic Capital Bank)
• Longest drive (women) – Daphne Byrd (Southeastern Primary Care)
• Closest to the pin (men) – Bill Wilson
• Closest to the pin (women) – Mary Trowell

This year’s Golf Tournament Fundraiser sponsors include Combined Services, Inc. (platinum); Country Financial, Publix Supermarket Charities, and Kids ‘R’ Kids Learning Academies (silver); Bullseye Auction and Appraisal, United Community Bank, Emory Alliance Credit Union, Strickland & Schwartz LLC, Abatek, Metro Waterproofing, Inc., The Baer Law Firm, Atlantic Capital, CDI USA, E.R. Snell Contractor, Inc., and Edward Jones Investments (bronze).

Lunch was provided by Chick-fil-a Tucker Station.

FODAC is based in Tucker but serves the Metro Atlanta community by providing recycled equipment such as wheelchairs, scooters, walkers and hospital beds for children and adults during or after a health crisis. Last year, FODAC donated over $10 million in equipment at little or no cost to recipients. FODAC, as a member of National VOAD and a partner with FEMA, also provides support in the wake of disasters; the organization is currently working to distribute critical personal protective equipment (PPE) like masks, surgical gloves, and gowns to essential medical workers, and medical equipment like CPAPs and ventilators for patients.

About FODAC
For over thirty years, Friends of Disabled Adults and Children (FODAC) has helped people with injuries and disabilities of all ages regain their mobility, independence and quality of life. The non-profit organization provides more than $10 million annually in refurbished home medical equipment (HME) and home modifications in Georgia and across the United States, all at little or no cost to the recipients. A pioneer in re-use, FODAC keeps 350 tons of materials out of landfills each year by refurbishing and reissuing over 700 DME items every month, and is recognized nationally for best practices. In 2014, FODAC was named to Charities Under 5% Overhead, an organization of charities that have operating overhead of five percent or less, and was recently awarded for the second year the Gold Seal of Transparency by Charity Navigator.

In 2013, Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA) appointed FODAC to serve as the statewide distributor of DME and assistive technology in the event of a large population-affecting emergency situation. In this role, FODAC will warehouse the HME and other equipment, then, working with GEMA and the American Red Cross (ARC) of Georgia, will coordinate the delivery and distribution to emergency shelters around the state. FODAC joined National Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (National VOAD) in 2019, bringing to the organization much-needed expertise and experience in the area of disaster recovery for the disabled community.

In 2016, Healthcare Quality Association on Accreditation (HQAA) fully accredited FODAC as a durable medical equipment, prosthetics, orthotics and supplies (DMEPOS) provider, thus confirming the organization’s compliance with quality standards established in the 2003 Medicare Modernization Act.
