The Secret to Reading Resumes - 5 Tips to Choosing the Right Candidates to Interview
Wouldn't it be splendid if there were a large Secret to reading resumes? One which would enable you to get through that huge stack on your table faster and that would present you with a lot more confidence that you are deciding on the proper individuals?

Unfortunately, there's no secret to reading resumes properly (sorry for the misleading title). Just like resumes differ, and so do the tasks they target and so do the resume readers. And so while I cannot furnish you with a key to reading resumes very well, I can mention several items that could actually help you do a much better job of winnowing down the number of men and women you want to bring in for interviews.

Tip #1. Before you ever read a resume, before you even request a resume, before you ever post a position, spend time building the job description hence you truly have no idea what you're looking for. This's the most frequently overlooked part of the job search. Almost all too often, hiring managers pull out a well used job description, change the distinction and publishing date, and breathe a sigh of relief. They've completed their part-see, on paper, here it's, a job description. The issue is that while recycling is a laudable practice in many places, it is not necessarily a wonderful idea for job descriptions. After all, are you looking for any man or woman who would have always been right for the project five years ago?

Tip #2. Make a summary of characteristics, skills, education, experiences, etc. you're seeking. Use this list as you review resumes to look for those exact skills. While it could certainly be seductive to wish to bring in the guy which won the long jump national title in 1999, in case he doesn't have the majority of the abilities you need you are simply wasting your time.

Tip #3. Skim the start for obvious red flags. In case the task needs company and also the resume is chaotic, you may not choose to keep on with that candidate. Look for grammatical errors and misspellings. Read the cover letter to find out if any gaps or perhaps modifications in career path are effectively described.

Tip #4. Do a telephone pre screen. Whether you call or have another person position the phone calls just isn't as important as taking a couple of mins to make sure this's someone you want to dedicate your valuable time communicating with in an in person interview. Generally, pre screen interview questions are reasons for leaving current/last position, salary requirements, whether the basic time install the person's availability, request to explain any gaps, adjustments in career direction, and any other confusing items.

Tip #5. Read the continue a few times. Make sure that you reference it as you create an interview guidebook so you'll be able to make certain you've asked about any open issues. Then see to it that you have a look at resume (carefully) directly before the interview.
