SAPIR - WHORF
Strong and weak versions
Whorf was a fire prevention inspector, and enjoyed being an amateur linguist. He found people smoking around empty petrol barrels, but not around those that were full. Both are dangerous, the empty ones actually more due to the fumes - he argued that the adjective 'empty' connoted 'harmless' or 'inert' for the workers' native language.
Berlin and Kay found that some language have different colour words, but some only have dark and light (binary options), but it's found that the third is always red, if there are more there are blue-green, yellow
Some langs don't differentiate between green and blue, but Russian as an example has a word each for light and dark blue.

Hello Yr 11 Students,
Changing you VCE Subjects at the end of Unit 1 is not ideal, however it could be possible. The process takes planning and thought. If you wish to consider a change, you will need to speak firstly with your current subject teacher, then with Mrs Bullers and finally with me. In regard to speaking with me, you will need to send an email. I will making a time to see all that are interested at one time at the start of exam week. Changes, where possible and approved, will take effect for Week 8. I will need your name by the end of week 5 (27 May) by email as I will be off campus.
