According to obesitycampaign.org obesity is the gateway to chronic disease, an increased probability of getting cancer, and shorter life spans. This almost directly links it to the dictionary definition of disease as it disrupts structure and function while also causing negative symptoms.

Obesity needs to become a disease so that it will be made more aware to the public, and will be able to be kept under better control. Once it is filed as disease the government is given better funding to counteract obesity and the 51% of people it is projected to effect by 2030.

Opposition argues saying it is a choice not a disease; however, over the past 40 years content sizes of restaurants and other food producing establishments have increased 30%. Meaning wherever you go you will be presented 30% more food and 30% more calories. A majority of americans claim that most feel obliged to finish all of their plate, even if not at the restaurant than later that day at home.
