The online storage of videos isn't reliable. Sites can close or fail. Here are some ways to backup your social media presence to your laptop.

My personal story doesn't have any depth. My story isn't a long one. I was born, attended school, worked and finally got online. However, there were some traumatic moments in which everything seemed gone forever. One of those moments was when my laptop at home stopped responding. After a little playing around, getting a new desktop and moving my hard drive from the old into the new one I was able to restore all my work on the drive. It took 3 days of sweating, figuratively crying... I've learned one thing. It is possible to automate or manually back up my work from the day using Dropbox and my personal FTP servers, so that nothing will ever be lost.

It's certainly not the best option. The bigger your online data storage capacity, the more you will need to pay to protect it. It's simple to use and it seems very safe. It's easy to download and is downloaded anywhere where there's internet. What happens where WiFi or another internet connection isn't available? I like keeping my laptop close at hand for those instances. It serves as my last protection against loss of data. Two drives I have, which I utilize to create RAID stacks. They both copy each other and I keep one copy to protect myself in case one of my HDDs is damaged. Since I copy the majority of my stuff there, it's not often that my laptop is working. I don't wish for two drives to be destroyed at the same time.

Another great day of sadness came a couple of years ago. I'm very careful not to lose the work I've done. In the same way I've now copied the entire document many times and am able to access it whenever the internet is. This post was not about Periscope. It was a tool I often used number of years ago. Even in summer in 2020, during the protests and violence, I was able to make a few live streaming. In the present, Periscope TV is closing down and all videos will be gone within a couple of weeks. What do I do? I want all the videos to be downloaded so that they can be stored offline on my laptop. These videos are dear to my heart, they were the last time I spent with my best friend in Covid.

Then, every time the live event is over, it goes into my laptop. This is the method I use. This lets me cross-post videos to different platforms. Not only can I share Youtube videos on Facebook, but I also can upload that video directly to Facebook. It's its own video. As it turns out, I have more than 3TB of live streams that I've created in the past eight years. Periscope Lives won't go out of fashion.. It's helped me greatly.

It's a breeze. I open video I want to download on Periscope, Youtube or Facebook and copy the URL using the share link. listentoyoutube After that, I go to the website for video downloads, copy the URL and press the big button. Within moments, I'm presented with multiple choices to download the video. Periscope may not be accessible on all platforms. This site is able to manage m3u8 file that other websites download for you. I then navigate to the website for video downloaders and paste the video's link where they want it. After that, I hit the on the big button. Video is not downloaded to my computer, it's online and can be played online as the player loads tiny fragments one by one.

If you're not aware of this, windows can use the copy command to assist combine these fragments and make a standard one-long video file. It is caused by the format of Mpeg TS for video (or transport stream) used for the video fragments. Each fragment is packed with all the information required for decoding video. This allows every streamer to begin streaming smoothly starting from the middle. In addition, it allows browsers to save data transfer because instead of one hour of data, it downloads 360 x 10 seconds files, and only downloads those you are watching, thus when you only watch 25 seconds of the stream your player will download just 4-6 fragments (it downloads 3-4 fragments of the current 25 second duration as well as 1-2 fragments following, in case you continue viewing the stream). It reduces the amount of download needed for viewing the stream in just 25 seconds.
