Avanos Medical and FDA issued a Class 1 recall of 629 CORTRAK*2 an enteral access device, which is a tube feeding device that is linked to many injuries and deaths.
Avanos Medical The devices for recall were made available beginning on April 1 2016, through January 1, 2022. Avanos Medical Cortrak 2 eternal access system They're used to assist healthcare professionals place feeding tubes into the stomach or the intestines and bowels of patients.
Nasogastric or Nasoenteric tubes that were not properly placed have led to more than 60 injuries and 23 deaths reports since the year 2015.
Avanos Medical The recall serves to update the label of the device in order to remind users to check that the tube has been correctly placed prior to feeding.
According to FDA, "Adverse events include pneumothorax, respiratory failure, perforation (a hole or puncture within the lung's wall, esophagus or the bowel) or pneumonia, lung infection, and pleural effusion ("excess fluid that is accumulating between the lungs and chest cavity),"
