Avanos Medical and the FDA have issued a Class 1 recall for about 629 units of the CORTRAK*2 Enteral Access System, a feeding tube device that has been associated with dozens of injuries and deaths.
The recall devices were made available beginning on April 1 from 2016 to January 1, 2022. Avanos Mediacal Cortrak 2 The devices are employed by health professionals to insert feeding tubes into patients' stomachs or intestines.
Nasogastric tubes or Nasoenteric tubes that were not properly placed have led to more than 60 injuries and 23 deaths reports since 2015.
Avanos Mediacal Cortrak 2 The recall is used to change the label on the device in order to remind users to check that the tube is correctly placed prior to feeding.
feeding tube placement According to FDA adverse events, they include respiratory failure as well as pneumothorax (collapsed lungs) perforation (a hole in the wall or bowel of the lungand pneumonia (a lung infection) and Pleural effusion (excess fluid in the lung space and your chest cavity).
