feeding tube placement Avanos Medical has issued a recall notification stating that, since 2015, there have been sixty deaths and 23 injuries resulting from misplacement nasogastric feeding tube. There have been several adverse events, such as respiratory failure, pneumothorax (collapsed lungs), perforation (a hole or opening within the wall of the esophagus or bowel), pneumonia, and pleural effusion (excess liquid that has accumulated in the space between your lungs and the chest cavity).
Avanos Medical issued a correction notice to customers who had used these devices from January 2021 through January 2022 on the 21st of March 2022. The following guidelines were included in the notification.
Check the position of the nasogastric, nasal and other tubes in accordance with the policies of the institution.
