The enthusiasm and involvement of children in computing education is growing. Additionally, Minecraft has become a hugely popular cultural phenomenon as an exciting, stimulating platform that encourages play and exploration. This talk will demonstrate how Python can be used to teach programming while playing in the world of Minecraft. We will talk about how to design learning environments, curricula and case studies. The interest and enthusiasm for childhood computing education is increasing on all fronts, from government-sponsored initiatives to our own Python community. It has been difficult to find appropriate tools and environments that could be both educational and inspiring for children who are just beginning to learn about programming. In the meantime, Minecraft has become a massive phenomenon in the world of culture, and has captured the hearts and minds of our children. Millions of hours have been spent in Minecraft making and creating worlds and captivating the imaginations of its users. It is an engaging, enjoyable platform that encourages play and exploration. MINECRAFT SERVERS This talk will focus on the role of play in education, the basics of motivation and how it is interconnected with teaching programming. What can Minecraft and its virtual world solve these issues? We will explore the different methods and tools that could be used to allow Python-based interactions with the Minecraft world. The available Python APIs for Minecraft will be discussed along with example curriculum and projects. The tools and the environments discussed will cover appropriate requirements for Minecraft on both PC and iMac versions. Minecraft and Minecraft PI We will discuss how to create appropriate learning environments for your own use. Learn about experiences and success in other communities. Results: Parents and educators will leave with an understanding of Minecraft, its capabilities, and its significance in the field of education. They will also learn to teach Python programming through games in the Minecraft world. Participants will be provided with information on materials that can be used to teach Python and the steps required to setup learning environments.
