The company stated that it was working on a solution for the issue, but it could not confirm when it would return.

Many gamers have reported problems across the globe when trying to sign up to the service that permits gamers to play multiplayer games online and also purchase and download titles.

Our engineers and developers are actively continuing to work to resolve the issue that causes some users to experience issues accessing Xbox Live,' it said.

"Keep up with us and thank you for your patience."

It's just a few days since Microsoft took on YouTube and Amazon's Twitch with its own livestreaming service.

The firm revealed the problem in a series of tweets - but also said it was 'investigating' the issue.

The Xbox maker has announced plans to buy live-streaming company Beam, a Seattle-based company founded by 18 year old Matt Salsamendi.

The teen who founded his company in January says it has already had 100,000 customers.

It allows users to influence and interact with the game streamed, unlike other streaming platforms.

Beam lets viewers suggest challenges for streamers and alter in-game elements like the weapon loadout or the quest selection.

The Xbox maker today announced plans to purchase live-streaming service Beam which is a Seattle-based business founded by 18-year-old Matt Salsamendi

Developers can also design button layouts that allow viewers to interact with games streamed via Beam.

'We at Xbox are excited about this new convergence of watching and playing, and want to provide gamers with the choice and freedom to have great multiplayer experiences across all Beam's platforms,' Chad Gibson, a partner group program manager in Microsoft's Xbox Live division, said in a statement.

'This acquisition will help gamers enjoy the games they want, with the people they like, and on the devices they want.'

No terms of the deal were made public.

He explained how the system might work with Minecraft.

'Using 'Minecraft' as one example with Beam you don't only watch your favorite streamers play, but you also play with them.

"You can take on them and make in-real-time decisions that impact their gameplay, such as tools and quests, movement and much more. All this is achievable through simple visual controls."

Salsamendi says Beam will continue to operate even as he and his team integrate into the Xbox engineering team.

Salsamendi, in a blog post posted on the Beam's website, claimed that the service has grown to approximately 100,000 users since it was launched in January of this year.

He writes, "As part Xbox, we will be able to grow faster than ever before,"

We're expanding our team, building our infrastructure and, the most important thing is to continue to expand and help the incredible community at Beam.'

THE XBOX ONE S

The Xbox One S will be available in a color dubbed "robotwhite".

It will come with an internal power supply unlike other Xbox models that came with external power packs.

The Xbox One S will be 40% smaller than the prior model, despite this.

Microsoft said the console will be able to play 4K Ultra HD video and will come with up to 2TB of internal hard disk storage.

The new model will come with High Dynamic Range (HDR) and wireless controllers with extended range.

Owners will be able modify their controllers using Microsoft's Xbox design lab.
