Avanos Medical and the FDA have issued a Class 1 recall for approximately 629 units of CORTRAK*2 Entral Access System, a feeding tube placement device linked to dozens of injuries and deaths.

feeding tube placement Nasogastric or Nasoenteric tubes which were incorrectly placed have caused 23 deaths and 60 injury incidents since 2015.
feeding tube placement This recall will be used to update the information on the device, in order to remind users to verify that the tube was correctly put in place before they could deliver the food.
Avanos Medical feeding tube According to FDA, "Adverse events include pneumothorax, respiratory failure perforation (a perforation or hole that is located in the lung's wall, esophagus or bowel) as well as pneumonia, lung infections, and the pleural effusion ("excess fluid between the lungs and chest cavity),"
