The four main developers behind Bukkit the most popular set of unofficial mods for Minecraft servers, have been hired on by Mojang, makers of the hugely popular block-world simulator. Mojang states that Warren Loo, Erik Broes, Nathan Adams and Nathan Gilbert will join the company to update Bukkit and make it more compatible with the next version of the game, and to support other mods for servers in the future.
Loo writes in the official forms that the team will basically rebuild the game's API. This will allow non-official developers to use the game's mechanisms more easily and smoothly. FLASH ANTS Mojang mentions that there are a handful of teams that have developed popular mods for the game, including Spout and Forge however, the Bukkit team was selected because they've developed specifically for Minecraft servers. The goal is to have Bukkit working on "more than just modding."
The gentlemen are clearly happy to be joining the Mojang players. This is what happens when a business that you are working on for free decides they want to pay you in real money.
