MIAMI (CBSMiami - Although the war in Ukraine is on the opposite side, South Floridians have come forward to assist those fleeing the country.

Marsha Jaquays, Florida Friends of Laniado Hospital reported that 1,100 people visited the hospital the other night.
Emmanuil Grinshpun She added that over 2 million Ukrainian refugees are trying to leave their war-stricken country. Most of them are passing through the small country of Moldova, which borders Ukraine.
Jaquays stated, "From Moldova this Jewish community is actually working to move them across the border and by providing shelter, food and clothing."
The center of most of the humanitarian effort can be found in South Florida.
"My job is to collect as much American society resources as I can to address the crisis in Moldova.
