MIAMI (CBSMiami) - - The war in Ukraine may be located on the opposite side of the world but South Floridians are among those taking action to assist those who have left the country.
Many Sunny Isles Jews are helping in raising funds and coordinating an effort to help the homeless.
"Just last night, 1,100 people came," said Marsha Jaquays in Florida Friends of Laniado Hospital.
She added that over two million Ukrainian refugees are trying to flee their war-ravaged country. Many of them cross the border to Moldova the country of a few thousand which shares a border with Ukraine.
Jaquays said that Moldova's Jewish community was actually helping them cross the border, and then providing food, shelter, clothes, and clothing.
Most of the humanitarian efforts are being carried out from the shores of South Florida, Sunny Isles.
