HYPERCHARGE - Unboxed Developer Response a Few Questions for Their Steam Deck Support

Recently the developer Digital Cybercherries mentioned that HYPERCHARGE: Unboxed will have great support for the Steam Deck, so we asked a few questions. They were extremely happy to talk about it!



What is it? Hypercharge Unboxed, a traditional-style first- and third-person shooter inspired By Toy Story and Small Soldiers, is available. blog about games It is a game that focuses on shooting with waves with defense building mechanics. You must complete the task of Sgt. Max Ammo and stop the HYPER-CORE from being destroyed.



GOL: The first obvious question how did you go about supporting Linux / Steam Deck with HYPERCHARGE: Unboxed? What were the particular things you needed to do differently?



"Supporting Linux is easy. We already had a large portion of the game in play and tested on Linux for our dedicated servers, so the development was mostly focused on the input and visual side of things. Supporting Steam Deck Steam Deck has been a small challenge at present due to it being new technology, and we had to understand the peculiarities of a new platform and how we test/develop the game, using code debugging as well as game performance debugging shader output. We haven't had to change much about the game to make it compatible with Linux and Steam Deck has similar controls as the Nintendo Switch, so support was easy."



GOL: Have you tried it across platforms since HYPERCHARGE: Unboxed now has online play



"Yes Cross-platform between Windows and Switch is always supported for our Server and Switch, so the networking cross-platform side has been tested extensively."



GOL: Will you be supporting it on Linux prior to the Steam Deck releases? Or will you be waiting for it?



"We are yet to decide when we will release the Linux version, and it could be released with one of the forthcoming massive updates/patches."



GOL: Do You Expect the Steam Deck to help sales of HYPERCHARGE Unboxed?



"More players and better support are always welcome. But, our main goal is to ensure that as many people as possible can play our game across as many platforms as we can. It is so good on Switch that the Steam Deck version of the game is the best method to play it.



GOL Do you think that the Steam Deck will really change PC gaming? Although it's a handheld console it can be used just like an actual computer when connected.



"Yes we're hoping that it will be a positive impact. We have had a great experience with the Devkit. I believe there is always space for consoles that are open.



GOL: Comments or questions about HYPERCHARGE Unboxed?



"There aren't enough split screen cooperative shooters, especially on Linux and I'm hoping we can make a difference in this."



Digital Cybercherries was quick to answer our questions! This is one game I'm personally looking forward to playing when we can get a Steam Deck after the delay.
