While some developers embrace the controversial use of digital tokens, the developers at Minecraft have put their foot down on NFTs and blockchain technologies.
This post was in response to community members' feedback asking for clarification and transparency on the position of Mojang Studios, Minecraft and other related companies.
"While we are updating our Minecraft Usage Guides, we will provide more in-depth guidance on new technologies," the post states. Last year, Steam banned blockchain games and those that issued cryptocurrency.
Some creators utilize blockchain technology to sell things like skins and worlds, however, the people at Minecraft would like their community to be a place "where everyone has access to the same content." They believe that NFTs "can create models of scarcity and exclusion that go against our Guidelines and the nature of Minecraft."
They also state that "to ensure that players enjoy an inclusive and secure experience, blockchain technologies cannot be integrated into our client and server apps as well as Minecraft in-game content such as skins, worlds or personal items be used by blockchain technology to create precious digital assets."
Mojang asserts that NFTs and Blockchain are not compatible with "Minecraft’s values of creative inclusion, playing together" and "create an environment that is dominated by the haves vs. the have-nots."
All in all, the people at Mojang Studios just want to look out for their community aware that "NFTs may not be reliable and may end up costing players who buy them."

Their position comes in a time when some developers have signed NFT-related promises while others who have adopted this technology have been called out as being a profit-driven. Some, such as Team17, have even declared NFT projects public, only to be ended by the outrage of their communities.
