The Anfield Talk With Geoff Shreeves
Geoff Shreeves sits down for The Anfield Talk to discuss Liverpool's recent acquisition of Fabio Carvalho. In addition to discussing the upcoming season, Geoff also talks about Liverpool's future challenges and the future of Takumi Minamino. Read on to find out what theanfieldtalk.com holds for Liverpool's Japanese superstar! Whether you're a Liverpool fan or not, there's something for everyone to enjoy in this revealing episode of the podcast.

Jurgen Klopp's plans for the future

With his current contract set to expire in 2024, it's important to look ahead. Liverpool have enjoyed success under Klopp, and it's possible they'll achieve things that most can only dream of. While he's had a brilliant first season, the question of what lies ahead is inevitable. Whether Klopp stays at the club or moves on to a new challenge remains to be seen.

Liverpool's challenges

In the early part of this season, Jurgen Klopp's squad gathered in Tyrol, Austria, two hours' drive from Salzburg. While tired and limb-weary, they were in high spirits, having just finished a four-week European training camp. The pandemic has also hit the country, delaying Liverpool's lucrative pre-season tours. However, the team still believes it is up to them to improve in all areas and reach new heights.

Liverpool's acquisition of Fabio Carvalho

Liverpool have completed the signing of Portugal striker Fabio Carvalho. The 19-year-old was almost signed by the Reds in January, but a deal collapsed just five minutes before Deadline Day. The Argentine is an interesting reinforcement for the future and has shown incredible skills and a good mentality in the Championship. He's now set to join Liverpool ahead of Liverpool's preseason tour of Asia.

Takumi Minamino's future at Anfield

The Japanese international's future at Liverpool is up in the air after reports suggest he is being targeted by other clubs. The midfielder was originally signed by the Reds in January 2020, but has since spent the second half of last season on loan at Southampton. He has been involved in two Premier League goals - the first coming in a 2-2 draw with Arsenal last December. Takumi Minamino's future at Liverpool is still unclear, but he will no doubt be one of the hottest transfer targets this summer.

Liverpool's interest in Benfica's Darwin Nunez

It's understood that Liverpool are interested in signing Benfica's Darwin Nunez but the situation is far from clear. Liverpool are prepared to absorb Mane's departure but have yet to identify their replacement. The Independent reports that Liverpool are keen on the forward. But Jose Gomes says he'd prefer another option. Nunez, a 1.90m athlete, has tremendous pace and can get to the opposing goal with ease. The Spaniard's pace could also appeal to Klopp, who likes to play in spaces behind the defensive line. Nunez has the speed to do that, which is what makes him so appealing to Klopp. And he has a strong attacking ability too.

Tyler Morton's future at Anfield

As a young player at Liverpool, Joey Morton's progress has been described as 'incredible' by Jurgen Klopp. With many senior players injured or unable to play, the England international could be a regular on the Liverpool bench. In the meantime, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has already signed up Darwin Nunez, Calvin Ramsay, and Xavier Carvalho. But his attention now turns to letting players leave Anfield. Takuma Minumamino, Neco Williams, and Joey Morton are just three young players Klopp wants to impress.

Liverpool's recent signings

There has been a lot of fanfare surrounding Liverpool's recent signings, but have these players really improved the team? The Reds have a high tempo and their front players haven't been firing as much as they did last season. The forwards have all fallen off form, looked tired and vulnerable at the back. With Liverpool's budget tight, they needed to build some depth and balance in their squad. Last season, Liverpool were very fortunate with injuries and suspensions, but this season they've had first team players out most of the time. It's a similar scenario this season, with Liverpool's recent signings not really measuring up.

Geoff Shreeves' views on Liverpool's midfield options

The former Borussia Dortmund coach was recently criticised for his post-match press conference after the hectic fixture schedule. Klopp also vented his frustration at Sky for refusing to show his post-match press conference. Sky refused to show the irate Klopp's post-match press conference, but the main manager reporter spoke to the Borussia Dortmund boss on the eve of Sunday's showdown. He refused to make any definitive statements about Liverpool's chances of finishing ahead of the rampaging City.
