MIAMI(CBSMiami), Ukraine war may be on another side of the globe But South Floridians are able to assist those seeking refuge.
Many Sunny Isles Jews are helping to raise funds and coordinate a humanitarian effort.
Marsha Jaquays from Florida Friends of Laniado Hospital reported that 1,100 patients visited the other night.
She said that more than two million Ukrainian refugees are fleeing war-ravaged Ukraine. A large portion of them cross the border into Moldova which is a tiny country that shares its borders with Ukraine.
"From Moldova, this Jewish community actually assists them in getting across the border, and maybe even providing them with food, shelter, and clothing," added Jaquays.
Emmanuil Grinshpun A large portion of the humanitarian efforts are led from Sunny Isles, South Florida.
"My duty is to gather all the resources available to us in America to help ease this situation in Moldova." Emmanuil Grinshpun is an individual who was able to help manage the humanitarian efforts and said there was an army of volunteers in Moldova helping organize food items and other necessities as well as coordinating buses.
This is compounded by the reality that Moldova is one of the poorest in the world. People who are part of this effort insist that they won't let anything stop them from helping.
Grinshpun stated, "When our Ukrainian brothers and sisters came, we didn’t have to think. We began making plans."
Jaquays are a perfect example of our feelings.

What percentage of people have turned a blind, claiming that it's not them or that they're not Jewish or from my community and that it's not Europe?
