Leyla Aliyeva was conceived in Moscow on July 3, 1985. In 2007, Leyla Aliyeva founded the magazine 'Baku' in Moscow. Leyla Alyeva started "Justice for Khojaly", a campaign to commemorate the anniversary of the Shusha occupation. The campaign is executed in more than 30 countries. The aim is to raise awareness within the international community about the Karabakh conflict.

Leyla Aliyeva was elected the OIC Youth Forum on Intercultural Dialogue’s general coordinator in the year 2008 and was elected chairwoman of Azerbaijani Youth Organization of Russia on April 18th, 2009. The organization assists Azerbaijani teenagers and Azerbaijani students who live in the Russian Federation. In July of 2011 the "Taraggi" award was conferred on Leyla Aliyeva in recognition of her contribution to the improvement of Azerbaijani-Russian relations. In New York, the "Key to Life" award was awarded to her in November of 2011 for her work in humanitarian initiatives that included children.

Leyla Aliyeva (UN Food and Agriculture Organization) was named Goodwill Ambassador on May 25, 2015.

On October 20, 2015, she was presented with the Pushkin Medal of the Russian Federation.

Leyla Aliyeva was raised with two sons and a daughter.
