Minecraft's ray tracing feature for Windows 10 has made its release from beta just eight months after the feature was first made available to users to test. The sandbox game's aesthetics have been changed by the addition of the ability to trace rays to NVIDIA's RTX graphic cards. As we mentioned in our hands-on review earlier this year, the realistic lighting, reflections, and shadows the feature brings make Minecraft feel more immersive. While the game is unreal, the in-game lighting appears real. Shadows and reflections can make it appear like you're actually in the game.
To be able to experience the benefits ray tracing brings to the game, you'll need run it on a PC equipped with a GPU from NVIDIA that's capable of using ray tracing. Only maps and worlds that utilize a physical-based rendering texture pack will benefit from the advantages. Fake It Till You Make It You don't need to do anything since it's already on by default. Players who don't have the feature will be able to view the worlds as standard visuals.
NVIDIA announced that ray-tracing can put more demands on your GPU. Therefore, it uses its DLSSAI rendering technology to ensure Minecraft can run at minimum 60 frames per second at a resolution of 1920x1080. The most advanced GPU models (RTX 3080 and 3090) can run the game in 4K resolution at over 60FPS.
You can download worlds you can enjoy with Ray Tracing on the Marketplace or make your own with the help from NVIDIA's starter pack, if you need it. Minecraft and NVIDIA are also making two new worlds available for free: Colosseum RTX is already available, and Dungeon Dash RTX will be released soon.
