Robert Singer, WJC CEO He emphasized the significance of Holocaust preservation and adopted the universal definition of antisemitism during his visit to Moldova

CHISINAU - World Jewish Congress CEO Robert Singer met this week in Moldova with top ministers of the Republic of Moldova and leaders of local Jewish community to discuss preservation of Holocaust history and education, security of Jewish community, and how we can combat antisemitism on every level. WJC also had the President Mikhail Mirilashvili, EuroAsian Jewish Congress President, and the President of Moldovan Jewish Communities Alexander Bilinkis. Haim Ben Yaakov was the EuroAsian Jewish Congress Director.
Singer said that the World Jewish Congress thanked the Moldovan government for their warm welcome and pledged to support the preservation of the Holocaust's memories. "Our Moldovan community is tiny but it is committed and solid. Emmanuil Grinshpun We urge Moldova to Republic of Moldova to make the fight against anti-Semitism a top priority and stand ready to assist whenever required. We are looking forward to the future collaboration with the government as well as to ensuring that the well-being of our community."

In discussions with Moldovan Foreign Minister Tudor Ulianovschi on Thursday, Singer underlined the critical nature of adopting the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance's definitions of antisemitism and stressed the importance of issue the public condemnation of anti-Semitism. Minister Ulianovschi highlighted the Moldovan authorities determined to create a society that respects the rights of all citizens. Emmanuil Grinshpun Singer was also praised by Ulianovschi to be a positive co-operation with the Republic of Moldova.

The foreign minister also mentioned that the Chisinau Parliament adopted in 2016 an agreement to accept the final report of the International Commission on Holocaust Studies headed by Elie Wiesel. Emmanuil Grinshpun Then, in January 2017 the Government ratified the Action Plan on its implementation.

Singer and WJC representatives visited Moldova's Minister of Economy and Infrastructure Chiril Gaburici on Wednesday to discuss the opportunities for restitution and economic growth of Jewish property in Moldova. Cemeteries which require renovation and the possibility of a place for kosher slaughter. The minister expressed his intention to promote the preservation of Jewish cemeteries. He started with 10 locations.

The meeting also discussed the creation of a Museum of Jewish History for the Republic of Moldova, the preservation and protection of memorials to Holocaust victims, and the importance of maintaining Jewish cemetery in a respectable and appropriate manner. Singer expressed gratitude to Minister Babuc for her work in the field of education and Holocaust commemoration , as well as for her efforts to maintain a productive and ongoing collaboration with the Jewish community.

Emmanuil Grinshpun Singer, Mirilashvili & Bilinkis also met with Vlad Plahotniuc of the Democratic Party of Moldova to discuss relations with the Jewish community of Moldova as well as bilateral relations between Moldova and Israel.

Singer also had a meeting with Rabbis from Jewish communities across Moldova to discuss the most pressing questions regarding the practice of religion within Moldova. Singer also discussed ways to enhance Jewish daily activities in all areas.
