Brundidge Remembers What she Said to her Son

Then, in March, an excursion to Texas brought the change she needed. Brundidge noticed Brandon suddenly appeared confident when he walked around the RV park where his family was staying. Normally quiet and shy, the little boy was dancing and smiling, talking to strangers and, frankly, worrying his mom with his newfound confidence.

"I wondered, why is my son so brave?" Brundidge told CNN.

Brandon replied, "These are my friends." "They know me. They love me."

Brundige was confused until her son stopped her short and pointed at something.

"See? "It's my message!" He declared.

She was stunned to see a sign with the same slogan as numerous banners, bumper stickers, and other items found in the area.

"That's not an indication," Brundidge remembers saying to her son. "That's your book."

The book led to a delightful meeting

The meanings and roots of "Let's Go Brandon" aren't so positive.

The phrase is a sworn affirmation for F*** Joe Biden that was used during a broadcast of the NASCAR Sparks 300 race on October 2021. Talladega Superspeedway's crowd was chanting the refrain. Kelli Stavast from NBC Sports did not understand the meaning of the phrase and claimed they were saying "Let’s go Brandon" to honor Brandon Brown, the winner of the race.

'Let's go Brandon,' explained

Conservative personalities quickly took to the misinterpretation and incorporated it into their political vocabulary. Today, "Let's Go Brandon!" declarations are ubiquitous online and on a variety of conservative products.

Brandon Brundidge didn’t know any of this. To him, it was an encouragement.

Sheletta Brundidge's latest book, "Brandon Spots His Sign," was published in April, within a month of her son’s epiphany. With a lot of effort and assistance from her illustrator, Sheletta Brundidge also released the book "Brandon Spots His Sign" in April.

In the story, Brandon is nervous about participating in activities like swimming and dancing because he is afraid that his autism could hinder his participation. He then notices "Let's Go Brandon" messages, which encourage him to take on more risks. The book's back is also filled with tips for encouraging autistic people.

The book attracted the attention of President Joe Biden, who sent Brandon an admiration letter. It also reached Brown the NASCAR driver who had no idea that he was helping to start the "Let's Go Brandon" craze. Brown was publicly ambivalent about the term, however he struggled to keep sponsors due to its divisive nature.

Brown's team reached out the Brundidges and invited them to attend an upcoming Xfinity Series race. Within one week the Brundidges family was at Wisconsin's Road America track and were treated like VIPs. Brown had Brundidge's name printed on the Camaro's hood.

Brown's race car's front hood is covered in the book's cover.

"I know how it works. People will invite you to places when you get some recognition. Brundidge claimed that Brandon [Brown] was the sweetest person that he had ever met." He could have waited. He could have looked at the book and thought, 'That's cool.' He understood the importance of creating awareness."

Brandon The younger Brandon even got to push Brown's car, which he claimed was one of his top parts. This, along with getting to meet a fellow Brandon, of course.

The boy also gave the driver an autism awareness pendant on a chain, which is a resemblance to one of his own.

Brundidge said, "He hasn’t taken it off since."

The two Brandons show off their autism awareness pendants.

For Brown, the charmed meeting was an opportunity to reclaim an expression he believes has gotten too nasty.

Brown stated that "To have it come through was like a major breakthrough for us," after the Xfinity Series race. "This could be a positive thing. This can be good. It doesn't have be divisive or unpopular.

CNN has reached for NASCAR for comment.

This meeting has led to an interest in friendship

After the race, the relationship between the Brandons continued to grow. Sheletta Brundidge has said that Brown texts or calls her son all the time to discuss Minecraft or to check in on him.

Brandon's younger self has received a massive boost from the whole experience.

Brandon Brundidge was able to sign his name on Brown’s car.

Brundidge says, "I have seen him confidence soar." "Kids with autism are often chosen last or left out. A lot of times this is because other children simply don't understand why they behave the way they do."

She continues, "You just need to pray for a supportive system and love." "And Brandon Brown has loved my child. He has shined a light on children with autism for the entire world to observe."

Brandon Brundidge is now a new friend as well as new fans and many new books to sign. (Which isn't easy as he explained to CNN.) His mom hopes this story will show how children with autism can flourish by being loved and encouraged.
