There's good news regarding NFTs! Mojang has released new guidelines on the rules surrounding NFTs and blockchain.
There are many scams out in the world of NFTs, especially when it comes to companies using "blockchain" when they don't need it. Thankfully, Mojang have listened and issued some rules, and the basic idea is that "integrations of NFTs in Minecraft are generally not something we support or allow" they said.
Their latest news article provides an introduction to the nature of NFTs and provides a brief explanation of the reasons they have rules for server owners and content creators, which is to "ensure that Minecraft remains a community in which everyone has access to the same content". Part of the problem is the way in which NFTs "create models of exclusion and scarcity that violate our Guidelines and the nature of Minecraft".
Mojang have made their position clear on it all by stating that "As as a result, to ensure that Minecraft players enjoy a safe and inclusive experience, blockchain technology is not allowed to be integrated inside our Minecraft server and client applications nor may they be utilized to create NFTs associated with any in-game content, such as worlds, persona items, skins, or any other mods. ".
This is great, because it could prevent another Blockverse, which was supposed to be a "on-chain Ethereum NFT that enables an exclusive P2E for Minecraft". Can you guess what happened? They took a large sum of money, and then disappeared with it.
However they're not ruled out the possibility of using blockchain in Minecraft to "allow for more secure experiences or other practical and inclusive applications in gaming" but they're currently no plans to implement it at the moment.
