Minecraft's controversial new chat reporting system is going to be around for a while, says Mojang

Minecraft developer Mojang has stated that it stands by the new chat reporting system, after users complained that it could block players from their self-hosted servers.



On July 27, Mojang released Minecraft Java Edition 1.19.1. This has many improvements to Sculk duplicates, Allay catalysts and chat features. The biggest issue that has been criticised by the Minecraft community is the new chat reporting system, which allows players to send messages individually to moderation. This could eventually cause the complete suspension of Minecraft online.



The Gamer discovered this issue and took to Reddit to explain why it was a bad idea for a server host. Minecraft server list JewelTK one of the users states in the video that "the new chat reporting feature launched in version 1.19.1 is in opposition to everything that community servers stand behind."



"A major concern that a lot of server staff, including myself, have is that we may remove players from our servers, and that player, who is using the report function to report multiple accounts could result in our account blocked." JewelTK continues, "if Microsoft wants to enforce the rules and report system on the realms they provide it's fine - but they shouldn't have a say in the way our servers are run."



JewelTK was not the only one to voice concerns over the new features, which prompted a community manager at Mojang to discuss the changes in the comments of a Reddit post (opens in new tab). The post's comment read: "First, it is evident that there has been some displeasure with the player reporting system that is set to be introduced in the next update. We appreciate and appreciate your feedback, but it doesn't mean that feedback will always change the design principles Mojang Studios adheres to - which includes the upcoming reporting system."



"While we know that this might not be the answer you were hoping for, we don't plan on changing it." These changes appear to be in place at least for now to the annoyance of Minecraft hosts and all those who are part of these changes.
