Avanos fails to meet FDA Class 1 Recall Resulting in 23 deaths attributed to the Device
Avanos Medical Cortrak 2 Entry Access Systems is designed to aid trained health professionals in inserting medical feed tubes in the small bowel or stomach of patients who are requiring nutrition. There were 23 deaths attributed to the feeding tube in the year 2015.

There have been numerous reports of injury and death from patients who have had their nasogastric tubes misplaced.

Avanos Medical has issued a recall communication stating that since 2015, there has been 60 patient deaths and 23 injuries resulting from the wrong placement of the nasogastric tube. Respiratory failure, pneumothorax perforation (a hole, or hole in the stomach wall) and pneumonia were all reported.

Avanos Medical issued on March 21, 2022, a correction notice to its customers using these devices between January 20,21 and January 20,22. Avanos Medical feeding tube The notice provided the following information:
