In 2011, I began playing this fascinating game, Minecraft. And it didn't take long before I decided to do a build that looked like a giant Apple II Plus (see the link at the bottom of this article).
As time passed, the game grew and improved, and more diverse blocks were added. For a long time, I didn't really play anything on my Apple II. In 2014, I decided to take on the project again, this time with an even larger Apple IIe. I built the entire computer and an Apple Modem 1200, and telephone, all built in Survival mode; for those who have not played the game, this is where you'll need the blocks you construct manually, but mining them and making them. I put the project on hold for three years. Then, in the beginning of this year I decided to go back to it in Creative mode. This lets you give yourself all the blocks that you require. It helps to speed up the process.
The result is the above video which features not only the modem, computer and phone as well as an ImageWriter I printer (producing a Print Shop-style banner) and a joystick a DuoDisk drive, and the Monitor II, with blocky images that are low-res. To complete the project, I rebuilt my stereo system I had in college in the 70s.
Why did I do it? I'm not sure, other than that it was satisfying to complete the project I had started long ago, and to make it better than the old one I did back in the beginning of Minecraft. Although I don't programme on the Apple II anymore, this game allowed me to express my creativity in an entirely new way.
