Microsoft is expanding its world of Minecraft into a brand new action-adventure game, Minecraft Legends. The title, coming in 2023, asks players to explore the Minecraft world as it's being invaded by an evil force.
Mojang studios, part of Microsoft which is the company behind Minecraft, described this new game as a familiar but in many ways-new experience that is more focused on strategy and battle. The original Minecraft game was released in 2011. It allows players to build and explore while fighting zombie-like creatures.
Microsoft announced that you are the central figure in any battle you lead by fighting alongside allies and giving them direction," in an announcement teaser. Microsoft announced that it had a partnership with Blackbird Interactive, which also developed the upcoming space strategy game Homeworld 3.
Just because Minecraft Legends comes from a popular game doesn't guarantee its success however. Minecraft is a well-known video game, right up there with Super Mario Bros., Grand Theft Auto and Tetris. However, its efforts to expand beyond its popular formula have been inconsistent.
Minecraft Dungeons, an action-adventure title in the Minecraft style was met with mixed reviews when it debuted two years ago, as per an investigation by Metacritic. GameSpot is another CNET corporate subsidiary, gave Minecraft Dungeons a "good" rating. SRAZY'S BLOG GameSpot noted that Minecraft Dungeons was focused on fighting monsters, rather than offering a new twist on its basic formula of building worlds. GameSpot's Steve Watts stated that the game doesn't change our expectations of what games should be. Instead, it's relying on its own popularity.
Microsoft announced Minecraft Legends at its annual summer video game showcase, which is being held online this year. The game will be available in the coming year for Xbox, PC and cloud gaming.
