My radar is constantly updated with reports about the incredible work of global children as they gain knowledge and improve their skills in gaming interaction. Many children, aided by knowledgeable elders (parents and peers) are engaging in this incredible platform. Teachers are also helping their students to achieve amazing feats.
Look at this stunning construction in Minecraft The Minecraft build is stunning! Babylon in a completely exciting new world for our children's futures. When I say amazing, I don't mean just building in a game environment! I mean literacy and communication digital citizenship, storytelling, as well as creativity and global culture. It takes commitment from the adults to nurture students in this way.
Minecraft in education is a growing popularity - and teachers are taking to the platform to see how they can integrate Minecraft into the learning cultures of their schools. To be honest - Minecraft is also becoming an extremely dangerous minefield of its own in the 'grown up world' (consultant warning) - which is why it is crucial that we communicate with a quality user with a solid experience in best practices in Minecraft rather than consulting with experts.
Project Mist
Donelle Batty's Project Mist is one of my favourite Australian leaders. She spends so much time with her children every day that it's something we wish for all our children. Donelle has been running Project M.I.S.T (Minecraft In School Transforming education) for many years now. Her students enjoy extremely powerful learning experiences. GMods Experience in Minecraft is a great example!
My experience with Minecraft this year was awe-inspiring the teamwork, the efforts, the creativity gained and witnessed was simply amazing. In the class, I had the opportunity to interact with children who share the same interests as I do, and build friendships throughout the year. The most enjoyable part was working together. When there were large mobs and high deaths we hid in shelters and shared our materials. It was always a pleasure help someone build or create something. I have also learned more about how important it is to show my online image and how I present myself. Your first impression is everything. If you appear as a tool on the Internet people will come across you once and say "Wow, that person looks unprofessional and rude." That would be the last time they see your page/ sever/ profile.
I recently followed Donelle's tweet to see her thoughts on the launch of #ProjectMIST during 2014.
2014 #ProjectMIST will soon begin. It requires a dedicated community! http://t.co/HwGMrUlHI5 #minecraft @natbott42

She reminded us that Minecraft is a shared experience and that is evident in the different stages of learning required to gain Minecraft experience. Donelle is a leader in the world and will be traveling to Tasmania as an Hardie Fellow (Info re Hardie Fellowship recipients 2013-14).
Donelle also reminded me of the fantastic work done by Jo Kay who is an amazing colleague who I have worked closely with throughout the years on various projects. Jo is currently helping and developing our work in the Master of Education, Knowledge Networks and Digital Innovation degree here at CSU. We don't utilize the standard LMS but have created our own system to support the degree.
Donelle is also able to explain this in a similar manner:
We are very fortunate at ProjectMIST as we have one person who has been with us from the start and is always there even at 12:04 am. At this time of the day, I am in bed asleep and the computer is also asleep but Jo Kay is wide awake helping the students when I am not. Her assistance is highly appreciated by the students and they show this by creating replicas of her avatars on their own servers, one young man even did this the other day when she helped him out when the server locked him out. his server. Servers This student has recently been accepted to the Massively @ Jokaydia Minecraft Guild and he is really thrilled to be able to build, learn and explore with other players from all over of the world.
If you're an educator, parent, or just someone who wants to give kids the chance to play Minecraft I recommend you visit Massively @ Jokaydia.
The Massively @ jokaydia Guild Website - a community backed by jokaydia.com offers children and parents with games-based spaces to collaborate, learn and play!
The project is designed for children aged 4-16 years old who are interested in developing digital media skills, creativity, and social skills online. We currently use Minecraft, a video game Minecraft to support a safe, whitelisted server and a range of activities which allow kids to choose their own playful learning pathways and adventures.
You can't do better than that! Babylon was built by a single student!
