How to Get Minecraft on Chromebook

You can play Minecraft on Windows, Linux, macOS and even on mobile devices such as Android or iOS. Unfortunately, no version of Minecraft has ever been developed for the Chromebook. You can , however, install Linux directly from the Chromebook settings page. Once you have done this, you can install and run Minecraft on your Chromebook.

To install Linux on your Chromebook, open Chromebook Settings and select Linux (Beta) from the left menu. Select In the Linux pane, turn on

The local storage on your Chromebook will be used to set up Linux. To ensure that you have enough storage, you can use the Chromebook file manager.

To continue, click Next in the pop-up Linux setup window. Select Install and then enter a username for your Linux session. It may take several minutes for Chromebook to download and to set up the virtual machine on which Linux will be installed. When it's finished you'll see a Linux terminal window appear.

Visit the Minecraft download page and download the Debian/Ubuntu Minecraft.deb file to your Chromebook. The file can be saved to the Linux folder under My files in the Chromebook's storage space.

Double-click the Minecraft.deb folder and click the Install link to install Minecraft on your Chromebook's Linux virtual machine.

Once the installation is finished, launch the App Drawer, click on the Linux folder and then select Minecraft Launcher.

To install the Java Development Kit, if you see an error in the installation, you can open the terminal app from your app drawer. Enter the following Linux commands:

- sudo apt-get update

- sudo apt-get upgrade

- sudo sudo apt-get install default-jdk

This will launch Minecraft on Chromebook. You'll see the login window. Simply sign in to your Minecraft account to start playing Minecraft! After you launch the game, the application will download the most recent version to your Linux container and install the update.

You can play the Demo without buying Minecraft. To enjoy the full version, you'll have to click the Buy now link and then purchase Minecraft Java Edition.

How to Play Minecraft on Chromebook

Minecraft runs perfectly on your Chromebook following the steps above to install it. However, you may find the game to be laggy or the mouse may not work quite right. You can adjust the settings on Chromebook to increase performance and reduce the possibility of encountering bugs.

Enable Chrome Flags

Allow Chrome flags. Flags that are enabled will enhance your Minecraft experience. If you don't see any flags below, it means that the flag isn't present on your Chromebook. It is not necessary to enable the flag.

Enable all of these flags by opening the Chrome browser, entering (or pasting) in the URL and then selecting Enabled from the dropdown menu.

chrome://flags/#crostini-gpu-support

chrome://flags/#exo-pointer-lock

chrome://flags/#enable-pointer-lock-options

Optimize Minecraft Settings for Chromebook

To optimize Minecraft settings for Chromebook, press

Esc

while in-game and choose

Options

Select from the menu. Select

Video Settings

. Adjust the following settings.

Graphics Fast

Smooth Lighting: Off

Render Distance: 10 chunks

Max Framerate 30 frames per second

Entity Shadows Off

Install OptiFine in Minecraft

OptiFine can be installed on lower-end Chromecast devices in the event that Minecraft is still slow after changing the settings. This application improves the framerate for lower-end Chromebooks. Simply download the latest version and then install it on your device.

Linux files

folder, and in the

Terminal

window type:

java -jar OptiFine_1.14.4_HD_U_F5.jar

(Replace the name of the file with the name of the one you downloaded. In our case above, our file name is OptiFine_1.14.4_HD_U_F5).
Minecraft Servers

Select Install and OptiFine will install on your Chromebook Linux installation.

This means that even on the Chromebook, you can play Minecraft in full-screen mode and it will run smoothly.

Minecraft for Chromebook

On the Minecraft sign-up page, you'll see a message that Minecraft doesn't work on Chromebook. This is, however, true. However, if you follow the above procedure, Minecraft won't work on Chromebook. It's playing within the Linux virtual machine that runs on your Chromebook.

As far as the Minecraft servers know that you're playing Minecraft on an Linux machine.

This means that so long as you own one of the supported Chromebook devices, you are able to run Linux (Beta) and play Minecraft on your Chromebook without any issues at all. If you don't have a compatible device and really would like to play Minecraft, you might consider upgrading to one of the top Chromebooks currently available.
