First thing's first, you need to be aware of the version of Minecraft you're playing on. Although the differences between Minecraft Java & Bedrock are subtle however, they could influence how skins are altered in each one. The new integrated Minecraft launcher lets you change skins with Minecraft Java a lot easier however for Minecraft Bedrock skins things are a little different particularly if you're playing on a PC.
You'll also need to find something to kit out your avatar to begin with. Take a look at our top Minecraft skins to see our top picks of favourite skins, and download links as to where to download PNG files. If you feel adventurous, you can create your own skins. This article will cover everything you need to be aware of when it comes to changing skins in Minecraft.
How do I change Minecraft skins
To change your skin's appearance in Minecraft Java Edition, follow these steps:
Start the launcher. Select Minecraft Java Edition - At the top of the middle section, choose 'skins' - Either choose an existing skin from your library, or click 'add skin' If you want to add the skin of your choice you can name it in the text field, and then upload the .PNG file from your computer - Click 'Save and Use' if your intention is to use it right away and 'Save' will just add it to your library
You can go to the official Minecraft website, go to the main menu > profile and upload a PNG picture.
How do you change skins on Minecraft Bedrock
The Minecraft Bedrock edition handles skins differently than the Java edition. On PC it's still possible to import PNG files from websites, but there's also a pretty powerful character editor as well.
These steps will allow you to import skins into Minecraft Bedrock:
Launcher: open Minecraft Bedrock Edition - Click "Profile" from the main menu. Select the skin you wish to change and click the option to edit your character. Select the second tab on the left side, and click "Owned." If you have existing skins imported, you can select them here, or click Import - Upload the PNG file in the same way as you would for the Java edition
If you're using a console or mobile, you're stuck with the character creator in the Bedrock Edition. Editum.Org It's more flexible in terms of the options available by uploading a skin image and allows you to alter the specific aspects of your avatar. A lot of the more advanced options are only available when you purchase them or unlock them through achievements.
