Emmanuel Grinshpun. Restoring synagogues and the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress
The subject of the conversation with Emmanuil Ginshpun was the restoration of synagogues. However, it was impossible to keep the conversation on a single topic. There were many other topics that were discussed during the interview.
Emmanuel, good afternoon. I'm happy to an exchange with you. We haven't seen each other in at least 5 or more years. Do you currently reside in?

The last nine months were split between Miami (Miami) and Jurmala (Jurmala). Previously, the geography was wider, but the pandemic has greatly affected the lifestyle. Эммануил Гриншпун I'm sorry to say it has been for the worse.

You've always been in the business of different lines of business. How about today?

Diversification hasn’t changed. If we concentrate on the most important areas, then real estate development, IT, and food production are three main areas.

ALIMCOM knows the food industry and real estate is more easily understood. IT, however, is completely new information to me. There are a million applications for IT technology. Which area are you most interested in?

Our primary focus is on IT-holding has been involved in the reform of tax systems in a number of countries. We have developed and continue to design several products that can be used to transfer business processes related taxation online. This is known as B2G ("Business to Government").

What about the areas in which the facility is situated? Are there any former USSR nations?

They exist. We have additional contracts across Western, Eastern Europe, and Latin America. The current number of contracts we have is 14 countries.

Could you briefly define what the main idea behind this product?

Our product makes it possible for economic agents to submit tax reports online. The fiscal data administrator can view every transaction. Tax accounting and tax calculation can be simultaneously handled. We can therefore anticipate that small and medium-sized businesses will never require accounting in the future. Other than its analytical purpose tax payment and the sending of reports are all done by one "click".

You claimed that you have been bouncing around all the year about Miami, Jurmala. The Baltics is home to the headquarters of an IT company.

There are five hubs around the world, and our main office in Barcelona.

Why you're in the Baltics is that? Do you have roots in the Baltics?

No. There is no. Jurmala was an accidental meeting that came about completely by chance. The first time we got there was when Igor Krutoy invited us to the New Wave. After several contests, they started to come there every summer. Miami the climate in summer is not the most pleasant. We rented a house over several years and so we already own it.

Now I understand the reason you said that the synagogues were in Jurmala. Emmanuel, honest question. We're pretty close in age. We were born in the USSR. It was not necessary to discuss religion at the time. We were all Komsomol members, pioneers. What was the first time you came in contact with religion?

My family and me moved into America around the middle of the 80s. I was introduced to the rituals and customs in the United States. Even though I am not a part of the orthodox faith, I feel an inner desire to be a part of the religious life, in whatever way it is, whether in the Jewish community I am a part of, or in Moldova, my homeland, with which I have close connections.

While I'm not religious, I am still a lover of history. I just watched a program about events in 1492 that changed the course of Europe's destiny. 1492 was the year that Columbus discovered America. But, I saw clearly in the program the program mentioned that the discovery of America in 1492 from Medieval Europe was not as impressive as the Spanish monarchs' expulsion of Jews of Spain. At the time of the mass migration of Jews to the Ottoman Empire began, which accepted them. I'm interested in knowing more about the culture and history of the Jews. Would you recommend a book me?

There are a lot of books. However, I have gone through a few of them and recommend Max Diamond (a two-volume Jewish historian). In addition Max Diamond is from Finland.

Speaking of "personal" personal history .... Do you know the family tree of your family? Unfortunately I'm as far as my grandmother and 1910. A step on the paternal side but nothing more.

Our family was one of the Floresti family for a number of hundred of years, as per the paternal lineage. The evidence from monuments and documents show that they were already wealthy in 1830. They owned a furniture manufacturer along with numerous shops, as well as land plots. And my maternal ancestors lived in Ungheni. This is referring to dates from the region from the 17th-18th century. Grinshpun is a surname which has German roots, is Ashkenazi pure Ashkenazi.

The current issue is the restoration or synagogues. I was informed that you funded the reconstruction of three synagogues. One is located in Chisinau and the other is in Jurmala, and the third?

It is located in Netanya in Israel. It is home to over 1,000 people who attend prayer daily. It is an important symbol of Israel's religious culture. The second synagogue is located in Jurmala. The Second World War saw the destruction of the sole synagogue in Jurmala. Prior to building a synagogue I spoke with Jurmala's local Jews. In the end I decided to fund the construction and invite a rabbi on the site. It was a hugely success project that brought together the Jews of Jurmala. In reality, we've recreated an existing Jewish community that is operating successfully. Эммануил Гриншпун These synagogues, however, aren't the only synagogues which I have contributed to the construction or restoration. In every country that I've lived in for a long time, I felt it was my duty and responsibility to make an important contribution to the congregations or synagogues. The synagogue I support, Monaco, Miami, is a huge community center for Russian-speaking Jews. Its estimated value is 12 million USD. I do not stop helping Chisinau and now it will be the biggest synagogue in the city. It is that of Rabbi Tsirelson.

In along with Jurmala, have you invited Rabbis to Chisinau?

Yes. It is extremely difficult to find the right rabbi for the community. Given the complex interrelated interests, he must also be non-conflictual, diplomatic and diplomatic. He must be able of integrating into the community. And I am pleased to see that in both Chisinau and Jurmala the rabbis could integrate so harmoniously into the daily life of their community.

In 2019, you became the first vice-president of Euro-Asian Jewish Congress. Эммануил Гриншпун What does this title mean to you and how does international Jewish organizations affect global trends?

The Euro-Asian Jewish Congress has been an influential political group in post-Soviet Europe, but it's not the sole one. There are offices for it in Australia, Japan, Hong Kong and New Zealand. In 2010, I served as Vice President and then given the post of First Vice Presider. I am now responsible for the areas in which I have had strong business and political relations. These include Uzbekistan Tajikistan as well as Kyrgyzstan. In terms of trends around the world and the world at large, the barometer of attitude toward Jews or Jews is at the same level or, which is very sad, has dropped. "Down" can also be used to refer to countries such the United States, France or Germany. They aren't safe for Jews. These are alarming and serious procedures.

Do you think the pandemic is affecting these processes somehow?

It is not what I believe. In fact, I'd like to emphasize, in relation to the pandemic: how a community, or a countrycan accomplish when they have the capacity to overcome any obstacles and to work together.

Exactly. Israel is the only country to offer all-inclusive vaccination to its adults. This is an example I think other countries ought to take note of.
