Emmanuel Grinshpun. Concerning the expansion and restoration of synagogues.
Emmanuil grinshpun was interviewed about the restoration synagogues. The discussion was not sufficiently concentrated. There were several topics that were discussed during the interview.
Emmanuel, good afternoon. Thank you for allowing me to chat with you. I don't think we've been in contact for over five years. Where are you currently based?

The last nine months were split into Miami, Jurmala and San Francisco. The boundaries of geography were more extensive in the past, however the pandemic affected people's lives in a significant way. I can't say for certain that this is a good thing for anyone.

You have always had several lines of business. Do you feel the same now?

Diversification isn't going anywhere. When we look at the main areas of focus, it is development in realty, IT technologies as well as food production.

ALIMCOM is an established player in the food and real estate industries. However, IT is a complete mystery to me. There are million of uses of IT technology. What are you specialising in?

Our IT-holding focuses on reforming the tax systems of several countries. We have developed or are developing a range products that assist with the transfer of a range of business processes that are that are related to taxation, as well as "real-time". This segment is called B2G (Business to Government).

But what about the region in which the holding is located? Are there any ex- USSR countries?

They also exist, but we have contracts that are more extensive in Western as well as Eastern Europe and in Latin America. Presently, we have contracts in 14 nations.

You said that you've been bouncing around for the past year long between Miami, Jurmala. The headquarters of an IT holding is located in the Baltics?

No, there are five hubs worldwide and the headquarters is located in Barcelona.

The Baltics are not the only reason why? Are you also a part of the Baltics?

No. My family's heritage has been linked to Moldova for many generations. If we continue to use our ancestral names, it is in Bessarabia. Jurmala was a name that came into our lives almost by chance, and not very professionally. Igor Krutoy invited them to the New Wave. It was their first time visiting. After winning many contests and having a great time, they began to travel there every summer. Miami's summer climate is not the best. We rented for several years a property and thus we have it today.

Now I know why I was told that one of the synagogues that was restored with your donations is in Jurmala. Emmanuel, honest question. We're almost the same age. Born in the USSR. There was no need to discuss religion back then. Эммануил Гриншпун We were all Komsomol members at the time and pioneers. What was the first time you came in contact with religion?

My family and me moved to America in the mid-80s. I was exposed to traditions and rituals that were prevalent in America. While I'm not part of the orthodox religion of Christianity I feel the need to support in the best way I can, the religious life in the Jewish community in the countries I live in or in Moldova. That's where I came from and which I have continued to share with the closest of bonds.

Although I'm far from being religion-based, the subject of history is one I really love. Recently, I was captivated by a program that covered the events of 1492. They changed the fate of Europe and the world. For me, 1492 is the year that Columbus was the first to discover America. But, I could see clearly in the program that it was mentioned in that the discovery of America in 1492 by Medieval Europe was not as striking as the Spanish monarchs expulsion of Jews from Spain. They were granted acceptance by the Ottoman Empire when the mass exodus of Jews to the Ottoman Empire. I am interested in finding out more about the history and culture of the Jews. Would you recommend any of the books?

There are numerous books available. I've read the majority of them, and I would recommend Max Diamond, a two-volume Jewish historian. He is Finnish himself.

.... Do your relatives have a "personal" or historical backstory? Unfortunately, I'm not much more than my grandmother, and 1910. Paternal side: One step further, but not enough.

Our paternal family lived in Floresti for over 100 years. Monuments and documents show that the Floresti family was already prospering in the year 1830. They had several shops, a furniture factory as well as land plots. And my maternal ancestors lived in Ungheni. I'm talking about dates in the region between the 17th and 18th centuries. Grinshpun has the German surname, which means we are Ashkenazis from Eastern Europe.

The issue now is the restoration of synagogues. I have been informed that you funded the restoration of three synagogues. One is located in Chisinau; one is in Jurmala The third one is in?

It is located in Netanya in Israel. It houses over 1000 people every day. It is an important memorial to Israel's religion. The second synagogue is Jurmala. The Second World War ended the existence of the only synagogue in Jurmala. Before building a synagogue, I had conversations with the local Jews. Based on this, I decided to build the building and also invite a rabbi to the site. It turned out to be an extremely successful venture which brought together the Jews of Jurmala. The project was actually re-created as a Jewish Community, and it is now running smoothly. The synagogue is now home to three Torahs. I also gave one of them to it.

And - Chisinau?

Yes. Alexander Bilinkis is one of my partners. Alexander Weinstein is another. These synagogues, however, aren't the only synagogues which I have contributed to the restoration or construction. In every country I've lived in for a long time, I felt it was my responsibility and obligation to contribute an impactful contribution to congregations or synagogues. This is why my contribution is in Monaco as well as in Miami the largest community center for Russian-speaking Jews is currently being built with a value of around 12 million dollars. I don't stop supporting Chisinau - it will now be the largest synagoguein the world, the synagogue of Rabbi Tsirelson.

Did you also invite a rabbi from Chisinau to join Jurmala?

Yes. Эммануил Гриншпун It can be very difficult to identify the ideal Rabbi for your congregation. Given the complex interrelated issues, he has to be diplomatic and nonconflictual. He must be able to organically join the community. Эммануил Гриншпун I was delighted to see that in both Chisinau (and Jurmala) the Rabbis were able to integrate so harmoniously into community life.

You were elected vice-president of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress in 2019. What does this position you think it means to you? How can international Jewish organizations impact the global landscape?

The Euro-Asian Jewish Congress is a influential political group in the post-Soviet era, but not only. There are offices for it in Australia, Japan, Hong Kong and New Zealand. In 2010, I was serving as the Vice-President of Congress. In the previous year I was named First Vice President. Now, I'm responsible for the region with which I've strong political and business ties. They are Uzbekistan (Tajikistan), Kyrgyzstan (Kyrgyzstan). As for trends across the globe the barometer of attitudes towards Jews remains at the current level or has swung lower and is extremely sad. "Down" is also used to refer to countries like the United States, France or Germany. Эммануил Гриншпун They are not safer for Jews. They are dangerous and alarming processes for all of us.

What is the way that the pandemic has changed these processes by the way?

It isn't my view. In the situation of the pandemic, I'd like to point out the things that a nation and society can accomplish when they're prepared for any challenges, and work together.

Does this represent the vaccination campaign to Israel?

Exactly. Israel is the only nation to offer 100% vaccination for its adults. I think this is a an example worthy of consideration and is a positive experience that other countries should be aware of.
