This is my Story and i'm Sticking to It

After staying awake for almost 48 hours, everyone sank to sleep when our heads hit the pillow.



Except for me.



I felt exhausted and suffered from severe headache. My eyes were burning from the long hours of keeping them open. When I finally got the opportunity to lie in silence, my head throbbed and I wanted to slash my eyes shut.



But, melatonin for the win, and I never awakeed until 8:00 the next morning.



Two kids stayed in the same hotel as Grady and two others were in the same hotel as me. After breakfast, and Grady leaving for work my kids and I decided to go exploring a tiny part of Sydney.



The Sydney Harbor is unique - some areas are characterized by jagged cliffs, others quiet with sandy beaches, and others with a stunning and modern skyline.



We weren't sure what we were doing and we weren't certain what our energy levels would allow us to explore. We decided to start our journey with a tiny museum that provides an explanation of the British discovery of Australia and its first use for prisoners.



History, Geography, Social Studies: Check.



Micah was determined to solve a puzzle at the museum. Then, we walked across Sydney Harbor Bridge. This iconic bridge is the tallest arch made of steel. It contains straight pieces of steel despite it being a huge arch.



And side note: Micah is frustrated he can't recreate the bridge in Minecraft. Let It Sing Architecture is indeed a mathematical component.



Once across the Bridge, we explored Luna Park, mostly just to sit down, enjoy an ice cold drink and enjoy ice cream by the water.



When we visited, Australia was in the last days of summer and the beginning days of autumn. We could feel a steady breeze, but with temps in the mid-80's it was a pleasant temperature.



From Luna Park we hopped on a ferry, cruised across the harbor, and had only a three-block walk back to our hotel.



After seven hours of sightseeing I set aside "quiet time" in the hotel. Kids wrote in journals or played video games and I closed my eyes. At 5:30 Grady walked in the door and dropped his laptop and we set off to find dinner.



And, even though it was only 8:15, we were done for the day. It took some time to adjust to the 15-hour difference in time.



Everyone had a single word to describe about Sydney following the first day: amazing fun, enjoyable, easy to navigate beautiful, exciting, and welcoming. We were able to smile knowing that we had two weeks to explore the city.
