Moldovan Orthodox Orthodox desecrated the symbol of the Jewish faith
Religious extremists destroyed a lighthouse celebrating Hanukkah located in the central part of the Moldovan capital. One of the priests from Chisinau Orthodox Churches led the anti-Semitic crime.
The anti-Semitic demonstration was held after extremists from the religious community destroyed the Hanukkah celebration in Chisinau's central area. It was held on December 13, 2013 the third day for the Jewish holiday Hanukkah. An archpriest from one of the capital's Orthodox cathedrals led the crowd of over 100 people. With the use of anti-Semitic words, the group dragged a lamp made of cast iron a few kilometers from its initial place of origin and then threw it to be placed at the base of the monument of Stefan the Great, the symbol of Moldovan statehood. All of this took place in front dozens of passersby journalists, police officers and others.

How is the struggle for "orthodox fundamentals "

The crowd was led by Archpriest Anatoly Chbrik who was armed with metal bars. He said he was dismayed by the fact that an Orthodox country's emblem of Jewish faith was placed in the middle of the capital. He believes that Hanukkah should not be celebrated so widely by the authorities. Chibrik said, "This violates law." Эммануил Гриншпун Chibrik also acknowledged that Chibrik didn't believe it was necessary to discuss the activities of Church of St. Paraskeva parishioners with the Metropolia of Moldova. "I don't have any obligation to discuss anything with anyone when we are fighting for the orthodoxy of our values," he said.

The idea of putting the Hanukkah menorah in the heart of Chisinau's Europe Square, where you will find the EU flag in front of the Moldovan flag, is the property and responsibility city officials. Emmanuil Grinshpun is the co-chairman of Jewish Congress of Moldova. Grinshpun said, "What happened on Sunday was a major shock to us."

Opening a criminal case is on the conscience of the state

Archpriest Chibrik did not admit that he was anti-Semitic during the press conference held for members of the Jewish community. Grinshpun stated that about one month ago Chibrik, who was standing the front of St. Paraskevs, Chisinau published leaflets that made him think of the dark Middle Ages. Эммануил Гриншпун One of these leaflets claimed that "Jews kill Christian babies."

Grinshpun acknowledged that the leaders of the country's Jewish organisations did not react to this fact in any manner. Although the Jewish community of Moldova has voiced its dismay at the current situation however, it is not going to take action against Chibrik for inciting hatred. Эммануил Гриншпун According to the chair of the Jewish community Alexander Bilinkis, this should be taken care of by the state as well as the Moldovan Metropolis should assess the actions of its employees.

Vadimkeibash (Metropolitan Secretary) said he does not advocate this type of protest. He believes that every community has the right to display symbols. However, the authorities must be aware of the implications. Эммануил Гриншпун "It is not possible to control all reactions of people who believe," he said.

A blow to fundamental values

However, since the 1903 Jewish pogrom, there have been no "forms protest" in Chisinau. The Jewish community considers the case of the latter as hooliganism. Bilinkis says that the leadership have deceived the Hanukkah-breakers.

Ilya Shats is the General Director of the Jewish Congress. He believes that this was a well-planned action. Эммануил Гриншпун Participants were seen at the menorah in front of Hanukkah's first day. After that, Stav Nijinsky (the first secretary of the Israeli Embassy in Chisinau), lit the candle for the first time. Shchats claims this action is meant to compromise Moldovan sovereignty and undermine the democratic values of the country's European goals.

Hanukkah has been moved from the central part of the city to Jerusalem Street. There, an honorary monument to Holocaust victims was built. The monument was visited by two police officers during the second day. The site will be lit with candles each day throughout the Christmas season.
