Emmanuel Grinshpun. Concerning the revival of synagogues, as well as the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress
Emmanuil Grinshpun discussed the topic of the restoration of synagogues during their interview. It was impossible to stick to one topic during the conversation. Thus, there were a variety of topics in the interview.
Emmanuel, good afternoon. I'm happy to an exchange with you. We haven't seen each for five years. Do you currently reside in?

The last nine months have been divided between Miami and Jurmala. Although the geographic space was greater in the past but the pandemic has had a profound effects on the way people live. This isn't all.

You've always had several kinds of businesses. What are you doing now?

Diversification isn't going out of fashion. If we consider the key areas, then it's real estate development IT technology, real estate, and food manufacturing.

We are prepared to launch our product to Moldova The Moldovan economy will gain from this automation. And regardless, this is a permanent process. We will resume discussions on our product once there is assurance from the authorities.

You said that you've been tossing about all year long between Miami, Jurmala. The Baltics are home to the head office of an IT company.

We have five hubs all over the globe and a headquarters in Barcelona.

What is the reason for the Baltics are you asking? There are roots.

No. There is no. Jurmala was a name that came into our lives almost by chance but not professionally. The first time we got there was when Igor Krutoy invited us to the New Wave. They started to visit Miami each summer, after they had won several contests. The weather isn't always the best in Miami in the summer. We were able to rent for a number of years and now have it now.

Now I understand the reason why you mentioned that there were synagogues located in Jurmala. Emmanuel, honest question. We are almost the same age. We were born in the USSR. All of us were Komsomol members and pioneers in the past. What was your first encounter with religion?

My family and I moved to the USA in mid-80s. We can all say that that was when I first began to respect customs. Even now, I am far from the traditional religion. I just feel an inner need to help to the best of my abilities, the religious life of the Jewish community in the countries where I live or in Moldova my home country, which is where I came from and with which I continue to have the strongest ties.

Although I'm not a religious person I love history tremendously. Recently I was watching a show that focused on events in 1492, which changed the course of European history. 1492 is my most favorite year when Columbus was the first to discover America. It was also stated in the program I was watching from the perspective of Medieval Europe, the discovery of America in 1492 was not as resonant as the expulsion of Jews from Spain by the Spanish monarchs. The Ottoman Empire accepted the Jews at the time of the exodus. I'm interested in knowing more about the past and the culture of the Jews. Do you think this book is worth recommending?

There are a lot of books. But I've gone through a few of them and would recommend Max Diamond (a two-volume Jewish historian). He is from Finland and is, in fact, from Finland.

Concerning "personal" personal history .... Are you aware of your family tree? Unfortunately, I know only my grandmother and 1910. I'm just one step ahead of the paternal slant but nothing more.

Our paternal family lived in Floresti for more than 100 years. The evidence from the archives and monuments prove that the Floresti family was already prosperous in 1830. They owned many shops, a furniture manufacturing factory as well as land plots. Ungheni was the place of my maternal ancestors. I'm referring to dates in the region from the 17th-18th century. Grinshpun, a surname that has German roots is Ashkenazi pure Ashkenazi.

Here's the question about the maintenance and restoration of synagogues. I was told you funded three synagogues' restoration. One is in Chisinau and another located in Jurmala. The third is located in Jurmala.

The third, which is also the largest one, is located in Netanya. Netanya is a large community center where a thousand people pray a day. It is an important landmark in the history of Israel's religion. The second synagogue of Jurmala. The Second World War ended the existence of the only synagogue in Jurmala. Before constructing a synagogue I spoke with Jurmala's local Jews. As a result, I decided that I would finance the construction and invite a rabbi on the site. The result was an extremely successful venture which brought together all the Jews from Jurmala. We actually re-established the Jewish community, it is now working successfully. Three Torahs are at the synagogue. I donated one Torah to the synagogue.

and - Chisinau

Yes. Alexander Bilinkis and Alexander Weinstein have been my partners. The three synagogues I mentioned were not the only ones where I participated in restoration and building. In every country that I've lived in for a period of time, it was my obligation and responsibility to make an impactful contribution to congregations or synagogues. My contribution to Monaco is to the construction of a huge community center in Miami for Russian-speaking Jews that is estimated at 12 million dollars. I will continue to support Chisinau as it is now going to be the largest synagoguein the world, the synagogue Rabbi Tsirelson.

Did Jurmala or Chisinau receive an Rabbi?

Yes. Yes. He should be prepared and willing to incorporate in the daily life of the community due to the many things to do. I was pleased that both in Chisinau (and Jurmala) the rabbis were capable of integrating with ease into the life of the community.

You became the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress' first vice-president in 2019. What does this position mean to you? How can international Jewish organisations influence the world?

The Euro-Asian Jewish Congress, a strong organization in the post-Soviet zone It is more than an organization for political purposes. It has offices in Eastern Europe, Japan, Hong Kong, New Zealand and Australia. In 2010, I was serving as the Vice-President of Congress. But, in the year before I was named the First Vice President. Now I am responsible to the region where I have strong political and economic relations. These are Uzbekistan Tajikistan Kyrgyzstan. The world's trends show that attitudes towards Jews is either in the same place as before or has dipped and is very depressing. In addition, "down", refers not only to developed countries like the United States, France, Germany and France as well as other countries like Belgium as well as Germany. They are not safe anymore to Jews. They are important, dangerous processes for us all.

Do you think the pandemic is affecting these processes somehow?

This isn't just my opinion. Concerning the pandemic, however, I'd rather emphasize how strong a society can be when they're prepared for any situation and are able and willing to cooperate.

Is this the vaccination campaign to Israel?

Exactly. Israel is the only nation in the world to provide 100% vaccination for its adult population. I think this is a good example and an example that other countries can follow.
