Avanos Recalls Cortrak*2 Over Potential Enteral Tube Misplacement
This has resulted in sixty injuries and 23 deaths.

This recall is classed by FDA as a class I recall. Avanos Medical feeding tube This is the most serious form of recall. These devices can cause severe injuries or even death.

The FDA has identified Avanos Medical as the person responsible for recalling their Cortrak*2 system of access to the enteral. 629 devices manufactured between 2016 to 2022 were recalled in the U.S., beginning on the 21st of March.

Cortrak*2 is a tool that permits doctors to insert medical feeding tubes in patients' stomachs or small bowels.

In the wake of deaths and injuries, the system was recalled. Avanos Medical feeding tube Nasogastric, also known as the nasoenteric tube, that is not correctly inserted could result in damage to the vocal cords or trachea. According to Avanos' safety communication There have been 60 injuries and 23 deaths connected to this incident. Pneumothorax and pneumothorax (perforation) pneumonia, and pleural effusion have all been listed as adverse events.

The recall is being leveraged to modify Cortrak*2's directions for use and intended uses and to instruct users to verify tube placement based on guidelines for institutions prior to making use of the tube to provide nutrients.
