Avanos Medical and the FDA have issued a Class 1 recall of 629 units of the CORTRAK*2 Enteral Access System, a feeding tube placement device that is associated with dozens of accidents and deaths.
Avanos Medical feeding tube The recall devices were distributed on April 1st in 2016 until January 1, 2022. Cortrak 2 eternal access system These devices are used by healthcare professionals to insert feeding tubes into the stomachs of patients or intestines.
Avanos Medical feeding tube Nasogastric tubes or Nasoenteric tubes that were not properly placed have led to more than 60 injuries and 23 deaths reports since 2015.
This recall is used to update the information on the device, in order to remind users to ensure that the tube is correctly set before they can provide nutrients.
Cortrak 2 eternal access system "Adverse events that were reported included respiratory failure as well as pneumothorax (collapsed lung) and perforation (a hole in the lung's wall the esophagus, bowel, or stomach) as well as pneumonia (a lung infection) and the pleural effusion (excess fluid that is leaking from the lung cavity and the chest cavity)," according to the FDA.
