Avanos Medical pulled Cortrak*2 EAS from service after receiving reports of injuries and deaths related to tube missing.
Avanos Medical feeding tube The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), has designated the recall of Avanos Medical of Cortrak*2 Ental Access System, (EAS) as an I class recall.
A Class I remember is the most serious type out of the three classes.
Avanos Medical recalled Cortrak* 2 EAS in the wake of reports of injuries and deaths due to nasoenteric or Nasogastric tube misplacements.
The device was developed to assist trained health professionals in putting medical feed tubes in patients.
But, the incorrect placement of the nasogastric or nasoenteric tube could result in severe injuries or even death.
The company recalls 629 devicesthat were sold across the US from April 1st, 2016 to 1 January 2022.
According to the company's recall communication the company's recall communication, there were sixty injuries and 23 deaths in 2015 due the incorrect placement of nasogastric feeding tubes in the course of using the Cortrak* 2 EAS.
Avanos Medical Avanos Medical will revise the labelling following the recall. Cortrak 2 eternal access system This will include the updating of Cortrak*2 EAS's instructions as well as expected uses.
These updated guidelines require users to verify tube placement according to the institution's protocols prior use.
