Civilizations and their people, past and present, have always put so much emphasis on religion, life and death. The world has this idea that we can estimate or predict something factually inconceivable; which is ok, and kind of accounts for everybody considering that everyone limits the world to just Earth.
Including one totally non-threatened idea of identification that every person should have. That we each belong in one time and one space within everything that currently exists (mathematically speaking). We exist within our lifetime

I chose this book based partly on its cover, its excerpt, its topic (of course), but also quite a bit on the fact that it’s a graphic novel! This book contains all the rigidness of a single nihilistic perspective; of someone who is mainly swept away in the events of such a chaotic and unjust time- and on top of that, we see this perspective through pictures and images- that show us almost exactly what Marjane Satrapi must have seen and realized. The best thing about taking in a story that is told visually, is the understanding that we ourselves deduce the situation through what we see, just as we would have done if we’d been there. And to be almost experiencing and living in a time and country which you were never part of, seems to be something needed for our own reflective thoughts, because really this is the most honest and unbiased way to learn about this chapter of Iran’s history. Also, I’m just incredibly in love with the idea of this book- to read about another girl growing up in such a different world is something, I admit, I very much want to read about.
